Introduction
Usually, polymers are considered as insulating materials.
Polymers are one of the most used materials in the modern world. Their uses
and application range from containers to clothing .
They are used to coat metal wires to prevent electric shocks.
semiconductive oxide layers formed on metal surfaces is the way by which
nature has predicted the protection and long life of metals exposed in moisture
environments.
Polymers comprise a wide range of materials, which include redox polymers,
loaded ionomers, and Conducting polymers.
Corrosion protection:
Corrosion protection is the application of anti-corrosion chemicals to prevent
damages equipment or facility caused by corrosive agents.
The conducting polymer such as polyaniline, polypyrrole, and polythiophene
works as a strong oxidant to steel and used for the corrosion protection of
metals and metal alloy
Conducting polymers:
Those polymers which conduct electricity are called conducting polymers. The conduction
of polymer may be due to unsaturation or due to externally added ingredients in them. The
conducting polymers can be classified in following ways;
Conducting
polymers
Intrinsic Extrinsic
conducting conducting
polymers polymers
Intrinsic Doping Blended
Conductivity
polymer with conducting conducting
elements
conjugation polymers polymer
Intrinsic conducting polymers:
These polymers are characterised by intensive of double
Bonds in their structure i.e.., backbone of the polymer. Again
Intrinsic conducting polymers are of two types: -
1. Conducting polymers having conjugation
2. Doped conducting polymers
D
Extrinsically conducting polymers:
These polymers possess their conductivity due to the presence of externally
added ingredients in them. These are of two types: -
1. Conductive element filled polymers
2. Blended conducting polymers
