16 main sutras and 13 sub sutras which are simple
formula to do quick math
 To find product of 2 nos whose units place add up to 10
 Eg 1 : 24* 26 = (2*3)(4*6) = 624
Where can we use it?
 Eg 2: 25*25 = (2*3)(5*5) =625
 Eg 3: 75*75 = (7*8)(5*5) =5625
 Eg 4: 125*125 = (12*13)(5*5) = 15625
 Eg 5: 905*905 = (90*91*)(5*5)=819025

Can you find 35*35, 45 * 45, 105*105 ?


 To subtract a number from from 10 N
 Eg 1: 100 – 53
Ans – (9-5) (10-3) = 47 Where can we use it?
 Eg 2: 1000-257
Ans = (9-2)(9-5)(10-7) = 743
 Eg 3: 100000-786587= 213413

1) 1000 – 399 ?
2) 10000 – 2345 ?

ekanyūnena pūrvena - By one less than the one before

Multiply a number with another no that has only 9’s.


 Ex:
Multiply 876 and 999.
 Sol:
step 1: Subtract 1 from 876.
876 – 1 = 875
Step 2: Subtract 875 from 999 ie, 999 – 875 = 124
Step 3: Write the answer you got in step 1 and step 2 together
Thus,
876 × 999 = (876 – 1)(999 – 875)
= 875124
= 875124

Ex: 24* 99 = 2376


Can u try 878 * 9999 , 99 * 99?

Multiply two numbers, that are close to a power of ten - 10n


Eg: 9 8 x 97

Step 1 : find 100 – 98 = 2, 100 – 97 = 3. their product (2*3= 06) is the tens,ones digit of the final answer

Step 2 : add 2 and 3 = 05

Step 3: subtract 5 from 100, 100 – 5 = 95

Step 4:write the answer as 4 digit no = 9506

Eg: 94*93 = 8742 ((100 -94)*(100, 93) = 42 ; 100 – (6+7)=87)

Try 97 * 96
MULTIPLY A NUMBER BY

Case 1: No. is an even no.


Eg: 342 x 5
Sol: divide 342/2 and put zero at the end
=342/2 = 171 answer is 1710
Try 684 x 5
Case 2: No is an odd number
Eg: 343 x5
Sol: find 343-1, then divide 342 by 2 and put 5 at the end
= 342/2 = 171 answer is 1715
Try 685 x 5

Can you think of a short cut to divide a no. by 5 ?
