member of the bird group collectively known as poultry
• They have more specialized digestive tracts
• Rearing as a subcategory of animal husbandry, for the
purpose of farming meat or eggs for food

– Layer/ egg production

• Spread mainly in “poultry belt”, it include

indigenous chicken.

• Branded broiler chicken is marketed through 15
large and medium scale broiler processors.
• Already four (04) broiler processors and five
(05) further processing companies have
obtained certification under internationally
accepted HACCP system.

• Two (02) local grand-parent farms produce
around 70% of country’s requirements of
parent birds.
• Major problem face by farmers is high feed
cost
