• Annex I Regulations for the Prevention of
Pollution by Oil (entered into force 2 October
1983)
• Covers prevention of pollution by oil from
operational measures as well as from accidental
discharges.
• The 1992 amendments to Annex I made it
mandatory for new oil tankers to have double hulls
and brought in a phase-in schedule for existing
tankers to fit double hulls, which was subsequently
revised in 2001 and 2003.

REGULATION 6- SURVEYS AND
CERTIFICATION
• EVERY OIL TANKER OF 150GT AND ABOVE , AND EVERY
OTHER SHIP OF 400 GT NAD ABOVE SHALL BE SUBJECTED
TO THE SURVEY SPECIFIED BELOW.
1. INITIAL SURVEY-BEFORE THE SHIP PUT IN SERVICE.
2. RENEWAL SURVEY- NOT EXCEEDING 5 YR.
3. INTERMEDIATE SURVEY- WITH IN 3 MONTH BEFORE /AFTER THE
SCOND ANNIVERSARY DATE.
4. ANNUAL SURVEY- WITH IN 3 MONTH BEFORE /AFTER EACH
ANNIVERSARY DATE.
5. ADDITIONAL SURVEY- AFTER ANY IMPORTANT REPAIRS OR
RENEWALS MADE.

M3 & ABOVE WHICH ARE DELIVERED ON OR AFTER 01 AUG 2010.
• APPLY TO ALL OIL FUEL TANKS EXECPT SMALL OIL FUEL TANKS ( LESS
THAN 30 M3).
• INDIVIDUAL OIL FUEL TANKS SHALL NOT HAVE A CAPACITY OF OVER
2500 M3.
• FOR SHIPS HAVING CAPACITY OF 600 M3 AND ABOVE MINIMUM
HEIGHT OF TANKFROM BOTTOM IS : B/20 (M) OR 2.0 M
WHICHEVER IS LESS , MINIMUM VALVE OF H IS 0.76 M.
• DISHTANCE FROM SIDE PLATING – SHIP BETWEEN 600 M3 TO LESS
THAN 5000 M3 ( MIN VALUE OF W IS 0.76 M ) , SHIP 5000 M3 AND
ABOVE ( MIN VALUE OF W IS 1.0 M )
