INTRODUCTION
Anime is hand-drawn and computer-
generated animation originating from
Japan. Outside of Japan and in English,
anime refers to Japanese animation,
and refers specifically to animation
produced in Japan. However, in Japan
and in Japanese, anime (a term derived
from a shortening of the English word
animation) describes all animated
works, regardless of style or origin.
Animation produced outside of Japan
with similar style to Japanese
animation is commonly referred to as
anime-influenced animation.

HISTORY OF ANIME
The history of anime can be traced back to the start of the 20th century, with the earliest verifiable
films dating from 1907. Before the advent of film, Japan already had a rich tradition of entertainment
with colourful painted figures moving across the projection screen in utsushi-e, a particular
Japanese type of magic lantern show popular in the 19th century

MANGA
Manga are comics or graphic novels originating from
Japan. Most manga conform to a style developed in Japan in
the late 19th century, and the form has a long prehistory in
earlier Japanese art. The term manga is used in Japan to
refer to both comics and cartooning. In Japan, people of all
ages and walks of life read manga. The medium includes
works in a broad range of genres: action, adventure,
business and commerce, comedy, detective, drama,
historical, horror, mystery, romance, science fiction and
fantasy, erotica (hentai and ecchi), sports and games, and
suspense, among others. Many manga are translated into
other languages.
COMIC CON
San Diego Comic-Con International is a comic book convention and nonprofit multi-genre entertainment event held
annually in San Diego, California, United States since 1970. Originally showcasing comics and sci-fi/sci-fi films,
television and similar popular art forms, the convention has since included a wider range of pop culture and
entertainment elements in almost every genre, including horror, Western animation, anime, manga, toys, collectibles.
card games, computer games, webcomics and fantasy novels. Since 2010 and every year thereafter, the San Diego
Convention Center has attracted about 130,000 people. This event attracts a huge number of people, and is also,
according to the Guinness Book of Records, the world's largest annual festival of comics and pop culture.
COSPLAY
Cosplay, a portmanteau of "costume play", is an
activity and performance art in which participants
called cosplayers wear costumes and fashion
accessories to represent a specific character.
Cosplayers often interact to create a subculture,
and a broader use of the term "cosplay" applies to
any costumed role-playing in venues apart from
the stage. Any entity that lends itself to dramatic
interpretation may be taken up as a subject.
Favorite sources include anime, cartoons, comic
books, manga, television series, rock music
performances, and video games. The term is
composed of the two aforementioned counterparts
– costume and role play.
