Tittle:- Identify various additive manufacturing process and system and
prepare report.
What is Additive manufacturing (AM)
process
Additive manufacturing (AM) refers to a process by which digital 3D
design data is used to build up a component in layers by depositing
material.
(from the internation committee F42 for additive manufacturing
technologies, ASTM)...
Types of Additive manufacturing process:-
1) Binder Jetting
2) Direct Energy Deposition
3) Material Extrusion
4) Powder bed fusion
5) Sheet Lamination
6) Vat polymerisation
7) Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing
1) Binder Jetting :-
The print head deposits the binder adheive
on top of the powder where required.
The build platform is lowered by the
model’s layer thickness.
Another layer of powder is spread over the
previous layer.
The object is formed where the powder is
bound to the liquid.
(2) Direct Energy Deposition
Additive manufacturing (AM)
technologies produce three-
dimensional (3D) physical objects
from digital information through
layer-by-layer, line-by-line, piece-by-
piece, or surface-by-surface
depositions of materials on the
substrate and the previous layer.
The AM is defined to be “a process of
joining materials to make parts from
3D model data, usually layer upon
layer, as opposed to subtractive
manufacturing and formative
manufacturing methodologies”.
(3) Material Extrusion
Extrusion is a compression
process that creates the desired
cross-sectional shape by forcing
the work metal to flow through a
die opening. It calls for the use
of a wide range of substances,
including.
(4) Powder bed fusion
Powder bed fusion is defined as
“an additive manufacturing
process in which thermal energy
selectively fuses regions of a
powder bed.”
(5) Sheet Lamination
Sheet lamination (SL) is the
process where thin layers of
materials, including paper,
polymer, ceramic, metal, or
composite laminates are bonded
together layer-by-layer.
(6) Vat polymerisation
Additive manufacturing, also
known as 3D printing, is a
disruptive manufacturing
technology that gained vast
interests both from academia
and industry.
(7) Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing
In the time of rapid industrial revolution, the
need for enhanced engineering materials is
continuously increasing, which is leading the
modern world to the new, more efficient and
faster manufacturing processes [1] The
concept of Industry 4.0 is supported by nine
pillars: cyber-physical systems, Internet of
Things, Big data, 3D printing, robotics,
simulation, augmented reality, cloud
computing and cyber security [2] where,
Additive Manufacturing (AM) integrates to a
robust technique in manufacturing processes
which is evolved from 3D printing [3], in AM
the addition of two or more than two layers
of similar or different materials are done.
