Ansys

This document summarizes a student project on designing and analyzing a trolley mounted water tanker. The objectives of the project are to use CAD/CAM/CAE software to design a 7,000 liter tanker, draw its assembly and component part drawings, optimize the design, and analyze the tanker using simulation software. The project will involve using Creo to model the tanker components and assemble them. ANSYS Fluent will be used to simulate sloshing effects inside the tanker. The tools used in Creo include sketching, extruding, revolving, sweeping, and assembling components. The analysis aims to learn how to set up and use simulation software for industrial applications.

Semester – 8th
Topic - Design and analysis of
Trolley mounted Water tank.
Introduction

Specialized vehicles equipped with large tanks in the rear for transporting water and
controlled nozzles for distributing it – are a familiar sight in a variety of sectors such as
civil construction, mining, farming and fire control.

A rig for the driver in the front, which also houses all operating controls for the
disbursement of water.

A tank at the back in different sizes with varying water-holding capacities (anywhere
between 3000-20000 litres).

The offered tanker finds wide application use for supplying the water from one place to
another. Villages, rural areas and within the city where people have the water shortage,
such tanker is used for supplying water to the population
CAD/CAM/CAE plays a vital role right from the stage of conceiving of the idea to designing the product with
aesthetic appeal to developing the product level drawings and lastly to the validation/analysis
stage. CAD/CAM/CAE is the integral part of today's product development and product lifecycle. The multifold
capabilities of the application empower engineers with better visualisation and data handling tools necessary to
create efficient products.
What is the difference between CAD, CAM, and CAE software?
CAD = Computer Aided Design
CAE = Computer Aided Engineering
CAM = Computer Aided Manufacturing
Computer-aided design (CAD)
It is the use of computer systems to assist in the creation, modification, analysis, and optimisation of a design.
Computer Aided Design is a three dimensional design tool for developing 2 and 3 dimensional models which can
later be translated into a product. In the fashion sector CAD is used for automated pattern design and marker
making.
Computer-aided manufacturing (CAM)
It is specifically designed for computer systems to plan, manage, and control manufacturing operations. It is
used on the direct and indirect computer interface with the plant's production resources. It also takes care of
numerical control of machine tools.
CAM is a training tool for improving productivity. Those interested in designing products and in research areas
will find CAD CAM both interesting and valuable. All design oriented production industries and 3D animations
need CAD CAM professionals.
Computer-aided engineering (CAE)
It is a use of computer systems to analyze CAD geometry. It allows a designer to simulate and study how the
product will behave, allowing for optimization.
The major component of CAD/CAM/CAE systems is hardware and software that allows the manipulation of
shape. Hardware includes graphic devices and their peripherals for input and output operations. Software
includes packages that manipulate or analyze shapes according to user interaction.
OBJECTIVES:

1)To Explore CAD/CAM/CAE Software to enhance academic learning.

2)To draw assembly drawing
3)To draw part drawing of component
4)To optimize the design
5)To design tanker of 7000litre
6)To analyse the tanker
7) To learn about the analysis software
8) To learn how to use ansys fluent simulation.
9) To perform sloshing effect using fluent on tanker.
10) To learn about the industrial use of software.
