Introduction

• Act 3 of William Shakespeare's tragic play "Othello" is a crucial point in the play. In this act
Iago's manipulative schemes against Othello increase rapidly, leading to tragic
consequences .
• Othello's trust in Iago grows and he becomes increasingly suspicious of his
wife Desdemona because of the lies told by Iago .
• This act is obvious by themes of jealousy, deception, and the unraveling of Othello's
emotions.
Othello
• "And when I love thee not Chaos is come
again. “-metaphor
• "For she had eyes and chose me."
• "Farewell! Othello's occupation's gone.”
• "The handkerchief !.. Away! “-repetition
• "Haply ,for I am black ...If she be false ,heaven
mocked itself believe’t.”-soliloquy
• “If she be false ,O then heaven mocks itself I’ll
not believe Desdemona may be unfaithfull .”-
soliloquy
Desdemona
• "My lord is not my lord, nor should I know him ."
• Paradox (Othello is not himself).
Iago
• "It is the green-eyed monster which doth mock.”-metaphor
• "I am your own forever.”-irony
• "Men should be what they seem ."
Othello explained

• He foreshadows the downfall of his relationship

and himself as a person and a person with a
title in many of these quotes .
• This act emphasizes Othello's insecurity ,by
using constant changes in Othello's opinion
about Desdemona's loyalty to him ,this is
contrasted by Othello's assurety in battles and
in his journey as a lieutenant.
• Othello speaks openly about his emotions and
is too trusting and insecure . This is
shown when he openly expresses his emotions
about Desdemona and his marriage to an
employee of his .
Desdemona explained

• Desdemona is a naïve and innocent

woman ,she doesn’t think further into
what she is asked to do ,this is seen
throughout the whole act .
• She betrays her father and this gives
Othello reason to believe she would
betray her too
• Even after Othello speaks
to Desdemona ,she does not think to
figure out why he feels so harshly about
her and considers her
unfaithful ,she rather just accepts how he
feels and only speaks to Emilia about it.
