LET’S PLAY A
GAME!!

“Fact or Bluff”
Answer Fact if the statement is true and
Bluff if not.
1. Implied information is often easier to
argue about and debate, since the exact
meaning is open to interpretation.

2. Another way of thinking about implicit

information is to think of it as predicting.
3. An autobiography written about a former
president would be a good way to get explicit
information from.

4. When something is implied (not clearly

stated) in a piece of writing, it is often referred
to as explicit.

5. A lot of implicit information can be gathered

LESSON 9

HYPERTEXT
and
INTERTEXT
OBJECTIVES :
- DEFINE HYPERTEXT AND
INTERTEXT.

- UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPT OF

HYPERTEXT AND
INTERTEXTUALITY.

- IDENTIFY THE CONTEXT IN

WHICH A TEXT WAS DEVELOPED.
HYPERTE
XT
HYPERTE
XT
refers to the structure of texts that
are interconnected through links or
nodes, allowing the reader to jump
from one text to another with a
single click.
HYPERTE
XT
Hypertext by its nature is purely a computer
construct. It is a way of providing clickable links to
other sections of a document, or other documents on
the internet. It is the basis of what we know of as the
world-wide web, but it started its life as more basic
links within a document – for example clicking on a
line in the table of contents would take you to that
chapter.
HYPERTE
XT
What makes HYPERTEXT unique is the speed at
which you can go to different texts. When the first text
mentions a concept that is also discussed in another
text, all you need to do is click on the hyperlink and
another page will load.

Hypertext is now embodied in the www.for example:

www.http.hypertexttransferprotocol.com.
INTERTE
XT
INTERTEX
T
refers to the relationships between texts
that are not necessarily interconnected
through links, but rather through
references, allusions, citations, or other
forms of intertextual exchange.
INTERTEX
T
or INTERTEXTUALITY is putting a
text in relation to another text, usually
through direct quotes or references. A
book that quotes another book to
compare, contrast, or expand on a point
is using intertext.
It draws origin from literature and
asserts that text can only be understood
in relation to other text. It is also
believed to have been based on or at
least inspired by previously published
literature.

while Intertext is a form of text that is
used to express ideas and meanings
through the use of references and
metaphors.
The meaning of the text can be determined based
partly on the context in which it was developed.

Hypertext is a reading environment that is based

on the Internet. Hypertext allows people to go to
