Nature & Inquiry of Research

The document discusses the nature and importance of research. It defines research as an organized investigation to create new facts and reach inferences. The document emphasizes that research is important in daily life as it has come up with solutions to improve quality of life, though it may use different methods in different settings, scientific research universally searches for reliable knowledge in a systematic and objective way. It also discusses inquiry-based learning and gives characteristics of good research.

PRACTICAL RESEARCH 1

Learning Objectives:

After studying this chapter, you will be able to:

a. define what is research (CS_RS11-IIIa-1);

b. give the importance of research in daily life (CS_RS11-IIIa-2);
C. shares research experiences and knowledge
Why do so many hate research?
Because research for so long is poorly understood by teachers of research themselves!
Writing your Research IS WAY DIFFERENT from teaching others how to write their own!
There is no clear method on how to start, complete and evaluate research in unified
procedural oriented method. As a matter of fact a comprehensive process oriented rubrics is
not available before.
In numerous instances, the adviser and panel are too confused on the difference of what the
students wanted to study VERSUS what they want the researcher to do.
In worst case scenario, some advisers and panels deliberately insist on their idea on what the
research title should be without consideration to what the researcher originally wanted to
study. In the end, the research paper becomes way too different from the interest of the
student where their curiosity and motivation is negatively affected.
IMPORTANCE OF RESEARCH IN
DAILY LIFE

Directions: Complete
the concept
map by writing words
associated with the middle
word.
Research is an organized investigation and study of
materials and sources to create facts and reach new
inferences. Research has come up with developing
appropriate solutions to improve the individual’s quality of
life. Although it may take place in a different setting and
may use different methods, scientific research is universally
a systematic and objective search for reliable knowledge
(Walker, 2010).
Inquiry- Based Learning
Inquiry – is a learning process that motivates you to obtain knowledge
or information about people, things, places, or events. You do this by
investigating or asking questions about something. It requires you to
collect data, meaning, facts, and information about the object of your
inquiry and examine the data carefully.
Solving a problem by being inquisitive, you tend to act like scientists
who are inclined to think logically or systematically in seeking evidence
to support their conclusions about something. Beginning with whatever
experience or background knowledge you have, you proceed like
scientists with your inquiry by imagining, speculating, interpreting,
criticizing, and creating something out of what you discovered.

Give at least two (2) importance of research

1. ________________________
2. ________________________
Directions: Imagine that you are a detective, and you will
look for evidence on the crime scene. Supply possible
evidence to solve the problem.
Directions: PAIR WORK. Some of the following questions will require more complex thinking
while some demand simple or less thinking. Put a check on the questions that require more
complex thinking and put an X to those that trigger simple and less thinking.

1. What’s the color of your gown?

2. Who bought your gown?
3. Why are some graduating students not willing to wear
gowns?
4. Which memo are you talking about?
5. Do you agree that Mr. Cruz was the one who wrote the
memo?
CHARACTERISTICS OF RESEARCH

1. ACCURACY
2. OBJECTIVENESS
3. TIMELINESS
4. RELEVANCE
5. CLARITY
6. SYSTEMATIC
