OF A POLYGON
Grade 7 Mathematics
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
●Learning Competency: derives inductively the relationship of exterior
and interior angles of a convex polygon. (M7GE-lllf-1)
1. Determine the sum of the interior and exterior angles of a convex polygon,
2. Solve the measure of each interior angles of a regular polygon, and;
3. Display sense of willingness to reflect on determining the number of sides
given the sum of the interior angles of a regular polygon using the formula.

INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR ANGLES OF A POLYGON
• Interior angles of a polygon are the 6
2
angles formed by the consecutive
10
sides of a polygon. 1 3

<1, <2, <3, <4,and <5
• Exterior angles of a polygon are angles
5 4 9
formed when the side of a polygon is 8
extended.
<6, <7, <8, <9,and Remember: Interior and Exterior
<10 angles of a polygon form a linear pair,
they are supplementary.
INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR ANGLES OF A POLYGON
• The sum of the exterior angles of a
convex polygon (one at each vertex)
is
• To find the measure of each Exterior
Angle of a regular convex polygon
INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR ANGLES OF A POLYGON
Example: The measure of the exterior angles of a convex
quadrilateral, one at each vertex are 6x, 4x – 10, 4x + 10,
Solution:
and 2x + 40. Find the measure of each exterior angle.
Solve for x
6x + 4x – 10 + 4x + 10 + 2x + 40 = 360
16x = 360 + 10 – 10 – 40 2x + 40
16x = 320
x = 20 4x + 10
Substitute the value of x:
6(20) =
4(20) – 10 =
4(20) + 10 = 6x
2(20) + 40 = 4x - 10
