• QNA
WHAT IS WATER?
• Water is an transparent, tasteless, odorless, and colorless
substance, which is the main part of Earth's hydrosphere . It is
important for all known forms of life, even though it provides
neither food, or energy.
HOW WE HUMANS ARE USING IT.

 ‘Jal hai toh kal hai’ This sentence verifies that water is very very
precious. It is used in daily chores like washing clothes and
utensils, for drinking etc. But it is very less. Although there is
plenty of water available in oceans,it is salty. A large amount of
freshwater is stored in ice glacier in antarctica. Only a little
amount of water is available as ground water, in rivers. Lakes and
ponds.
 We humans are aware that water is very less but then also they
waste a lot of water. Not turning off the tap when brushing teeth,
shaving, leakages, washing vehicles with fresh water etc.

Wastage of water
STEPS TAKEN TO PRESERVE WATER

use pipes, showers etc.

• Jal Jeevan Mission-Har Ghar Jal, which aims at providing potable water in adequate quantity
of prescribed quality on regular and long term basis to every rural household including
tribal areas of the country through tap water connection by 2024.

QNA

• Fill in the blanks

1. 22__________
march is celebrated as world water day.
2003
2. _________ was observed as the international year of freshwater.
Drip irrigation
3. _________ is a technique of watering plants by making use of narrow tumbings which deliver directly at the base of the plant.
Q2 Explain the situation of Bhujpur before and now.
Bhujpur in the Kutch area of Gujarat has a very erratic rainfall. The only source of freshwater lies underground because rivers in this
area do not have water throughout the year. Over the years, demand for water has grown. The withdrawal of groundwater has far
exceeded recharge. As a result the water table has gone down alarmingly. In 1989, the villagers along with a non-governmental
organisation, decided to harvest rainwater. Eighteen check-dams were built on the Rukmavati river and its many tributaries. The
water so collected increased percolation through the soil and recharged the aquifers. According to farmers, the wells have water now
and the water that flowed into the sea and was wasted has become available for irrigation.
