ABSTRACT
This research study was conducted for the students to know many possible roles of
Mathematics in doing a research paper. Specifically, this study aims to: (1) ascertain the
different use of this subject in making a paper (science investigatory and such); (2) find
out the importance of Mathematics in presenting and analysing the data gathered; (3)
convince the students that Mathematics has a big contribution to prove the theories and
hypothesis with the evidence of mathematical proof. The question that really focus in this
paper is: What is the role of Mathematics in doing a research paper?
Ten senior high school students of STEM in La Vlaize Integrated Science School
will be randomly selected to conduct a survey about the role of mathematics. The
researcher will administer the questionnaire to the respondents to conduct the survey.
After conducting the survey, the questionnaire from the respondents will be retrieved.
Then the data will be examined and compared carefully by the researchers.
ABSTRACT
This research aims to identify and understand the roles of mathematics in the field of
research. Using the survey, the researchers are able to analyzed the data gathered. This study can
help the future researcher that mathematics have many roles in order to do a research paper.
The results of the test as they have been evaluated by the researchers showed a positive
perception of the roles of the mathematics in doing a research paper. This, therefore, proved the
feasibility of the research study as an application for conducting a research paper.
Results showed that Mathematics is indeed helpful in making a research paper. Mathematics
is not just all about in dealing with your skills in mathematics. This also contributes in
analyzation and presentation of data. Like what was said, Science Discoveries was proven with
the help of Mathematics. Mathematical breakthroughs contribute to new discoveries in
mathematics and often to new research methods in standard sciences like biology, chemistry, and
physics. Even mathematical knowledge that is developed purely abstractly, without any thought
towards potential scientific applications, frequently turns out to be useful in scientific research.
INTRODUCTION
Many of the research reports explain why mathematics matters, why it is
important to study and learn. Mathematics is important as a school subject because it is
needed for the sciences. Mathematics has since been greatly extended, and there has been
a fruitful interaction between mathematics and science, to the benefit of both.
Mathematical discoveries continue to be made today as evident to the overwhelming
majority of works in this world that contain new mathematical theorems and their proofs.
An early definition of Mathematics in terms of logic is “the science that draws
necessary conclusions”. It helps to analyze statistical data that enables us to investigate
patterns and determine the truth by drawing conclusions. It is the application of
mathematical methods to represent theories and analyze problems.
The “Queen of Science”, they referred Mathematics into it. Simply because it is
the main driving force behind scientific discovery. Without Mathematics, there is no exact
science, no physics, no chemistry, no (scientific and accurate) biology or medicine.
INTRODUCTION
Mathematics is an essential component of the scientific method (data collection
and observation and hypotheses are sustained by relevant mathematical models), and
mathematics is the language in which the Natural Physical World is written as Galileo
once said.
Mathematicians seek out patterns and use them to formulate new conjectures.
Mathematics resolve the truth or falsity of conjectures by mathematical proof. It is
essential in many fields, including natural science, engineering, medicine, finance and the
social sciences.
Mathematical is based on statistics, probability, mathematical programming (as
well as other computational methods), operations research, game theory, and some
methods from mathematical analysis.
METHODS
This chapter presents the method of research, the subjects of the study, the method
of gathering data, the research instruments or tools used
Research Design
The Questionnaire Method will be used in this research study. It enables the
researcher to come into direct contact with the people whom they choose as a respondent.
This method has a sufficient demographic information than any other. And the question in
the survey form is clear. This is easy to understand for the respondent to avoid confusion
and for the researcher to gather accurate data.
The 10 senior high school students of STEM in La Vlaize Integrated Science
School will be randomly selected prior to the conduct of the study.
METHODS
Subjects of the Study
The subjects of this study will be the10 randomly selected senior high school
students of STEM in La Vlaize Integrated Science School for the academic year 2016-
2017
Methods of Gathering Data
The researcher will then administer the questionnaire to the respondents, conduct
test and analyze the pertinent records to get the necessary data, retrieve the questionnaire
from the class, collect the questionnaire to examine and compare carefully in order to note
points and verify the order, necessary for the completeness of the study. Statistically
analyze and interpret the data.
METHODS
Instrument Used
The main tool that will be used in gathering the data for this research is the
researcher-made instrument.
This contains the questionnaire which was used to draw information about the
perceptions of the respondents in roles of mathematics in doing a research paper.

DISCUSSION
Table1. shows the results of the survey regarding the role of mathematics in doing
research paper. The survey aims to know ascertain the different use of this subject in
making a paper and also to identify and understand the roles of mathematics in the field of
research.
According to the data gathered by the researchers, this showed that 100% of the
respondents agreed to the lists of possible roles of Mathematics in doing a research paper.
That Mathematics helps us to measure exact amount of material used in a research paper.
It helps in analyzing statistical data. Mathematics also helps in Science Discoveries. As
well in presenting accurate data in research paper. This contributes in coding and
programming software in invention and technology. And helps to seek out patterns and
use them to formulate new conjectures.
DISCUSSION
After answering the survey, some of them added new information about the role of
Mathematics. They say that “Scientific method is applied in research with mathematical
solutions needed when statistical tool and instrument are applied for a comprehensive
assessment of data and computation applying test of hypotheses to arrive in significant
analysis of results and findings necessary to come up with the conclusion for the research
findings”.
These findings are also presented in Graph 1 to better visualize and comprehend
the different questions if the answer is agree or disagree. Results show that disagree has
the lower rate compared to agree that has higher rate. Hence, it can be concluded that
most senior high students agree to the role of mathematics in doing research paper that the
researcher presented.
CONCLUSION
This is the overview of the research paper. And the purpose of this study to
determine the roles of math and its benefits. Mathematics has a big role in our daily life.
Especially when it comes to daily activities. It has also a big help in improving our
mathematical skills. But not just in skills, this also helps to learn on how to face different
future problems. When it comes to data, this helps in analysing statistical data. Math
provides computations that the scientist or inventors would analyse. That helps to present
accurate data in research paper. When it comes to Science, it has a big help in Science
Discoveries. Math is frequently associated with science and is certainly relied upon by
scientists — the pages of any modern biology, chemistry, physics, geology, or psychology
journal are peppered with calculations, statistics, graphs, and mathematical models. This
also helps in coding and programming software in invention of technology. It also seek
out the patterns and use it to formulate new conjectures.
CONCLUSION
Mathematics is not just all about in dealing with your skills in mathematics. This
also contributes in analyzation and presentation of data. Like what was said, Science
Discoveries was proven with the help of Mathematics. When it comes in technology this
has a big help in invention of technology. Without the presence of Mathematics others
theories and hypotheses can’t be accepted because it doesn’t have any mathematical proof
that’ll serve as an evidence for other scientists and such to accept this.
As the survey was administered to the respondents, the researcher concluded that
Mathematics is indeed a hard subject but this also plays a major role in our everyday life.
Others can’t and unable to identify its role while doing a research but if they think deeply
they will see that Mathematics is connected to everything. Other subject can’t stand only
by itself for it needed Mathematics to support.
