Li-Fi
• Li-Fi is a wireless communication technology that uses visible light
communication (VLC) to transmit data. It is a form of visible light
communication (VLC) that enables data transmission through LED bulbs. It is
faster, more secure and more energy efficient than traditional Wi-Fi.
• Li-Fi uses light waves to transfer data, providing high-speed internet access. It is
capable of transmitting data at speeds up to 224 gigabits per second, which is 100
times faster than current Wi-Fi speeds.
CS-305 3
Mi-Fi
• MiFi is a wireless router device that creates a local area network (LAN) using
cellular data from a cellular network provider. It is a small, portable device that can
be used to connect multiple devices to the internet. It is powered by a rechargeable
battery and is capable of providing Wi-Fi access to up to 10 devices.
• MiFi is a great alternative to traditional Wi-Fi, as it is portable, secure and easy to
set up. It is also more cost effective than traditional Wi-Fi, as it does not require a
monthly contract or installation fees.
How Does Li-Fi Work ?
• Li-Fi works by transmitting data through LED bulbs. The LED bulbs are
modulated at high speeds to transmit data, which is then received by a receiver.
The receiver then converts the data into an electrical signal which can be used by
computers and other devices.
• Li-Fi is a secure form of communication as the signal is contained within the
LED light and cannot be intercepted by other devices. It is also more energy
efficient than traditional Wi-Fi, as it does not require a large amount of power to
transmit data.

How Does Mi-Fi Work?
• MiFi works by connecting to a cellular network and creating a local area network
(LAN). When a device is connected to the MiFi, it will connect to the cellular
network and provide internet access. The MiFi will also provide security and
privacy, as it will create a secure connection between the device and the cellular
network.
• MiFi is a great alternative to traditional Wi-Fi, as it is portable, secure and easy to
set up. It is also more cost effective than traditional Wi-Fi, as it does not require a
monthly contract or installation fees.
CS-305 6
Advantages of Li-Fi
• Li-Fi has several advantages over Mi-Fi. It is capable of transmitting data at
much higher speeds, up to 224 Gbps, which is significantly faster than Mi-Fi’s
maximum speed of 150 Mbps. It is also more secure, as its signal cannot
penetrate walls.
• Li-Fi is also more energy efficient, as it uses light instead of radio waves. It has a
range of up to 10 meters, which is shorter than Mi-Fi’s range of up to 30 meters.
It is also more affordable than Mi-Fi.
CS-305 7
Advantages of MiFi
• MiFi has several advantages over traditional Wi-Fi. It is more portable, as it is a
small, rechargeable device. It is also more secure, as it creates a secure
connection between the device and the cellular network. MiFi is also more cost
effective than traditional Wi-Fi, as it does not require a monthly contract or
installation fees.
• MiFi is also more reliable than traditional Wi-Fi, as it is less susceptible to
interference from other devices. This makes it a great choice for secure data
transmission.
CS-305 8
Li-Fi Disadvantages
• Li-Fi also has several disadvantages compared to MiFi. As mentioned previously,
it is not as widely available as MiFi, and it is more expensive to install.
Additionally, it has a shorter battery life than MiFi, meaning that it needs to be
recharged more often.
• Li-Fi is also affected by obstructions, such as walls and furniture, as light cannot
penetrate these. This means that the connection can be disrupted, leading to slow
data transfer speeds or even a complete loss of connection.
CS-305 9
MiFi Disadvantages
• MiFi also has several disadvantages compared to Li-Fi. It is not as secure as Li-
Fi, as radio waves can penetrate walls, making it easier for hackers to access the
data. Additionally, it has a lower bandwidth than Li-Fi, meaning that data transfer
speeds are slower.
• MiFi is also more susceptible to interference from other devices, such as
microwaves and cell phones. This can lead to a slow connection or even a
complete loss of connection, making it less reliable than Li-Fi.
CS-305 10
Conclusion
• In conclusion, Li-Fi and MiFi both have their advantages and disadvantages. Li-
Fi offers a secure connection and higher bandwidth, while MiFi is more widely
available and less expensive to install. Ultimately, it is up to the user to decide
which technology is best suited to their needs.
• No matter which technology is chosen, it is important to stay informed of the
latest developments in the field, as both technologies are constantly evolving.
With the right information, users can make an informed decision about which
technology is best for them.
