LESSON 1
At the end of this module, you should be able to:
a. identify the different issues in Media and
Information; and
b. cite an example of an issue showing the power
of media and information to affect change.

Etiquette vs.
Netiquette
• Etiquette - it means that the person has
proper decorum and behaves according
to what society dictates to
be right.
• Netiquette - denotes the proper attitude
that one should observe when
communicating online
Examples of Netiquette
• Do not use all capital letters online.
• Avoid Sarcasm and Subtleties.
• Be positive
• Never write harsh languages.
• Never comment on things that weren’t
meant for you.
Digital Divide
• refers to the economic, educational,
and social inequalities experienced
by those who cannot afford
computer and internet access.
Common Types of Digital Divide
• Infrastructure • Device
• Education • Defensive Computing
• Information Security • Cost
• Blocking
Virtual Self
• pertains to an individual's
representation in the virtual world,
which exists online and is only
available once connected to the
internet.
Dangers of the Internet
• neglecting responsibility
• social media addiction
Internet and Computer
Addiction
• Addiction - refers to a condition in which a person
seems to have lost control
over an action or behavior, which
mental health practitioners deemed as self-
destructive.
• Digital Addiction - is the ineptitude to control your
hanker using digital-age technology like computers
and smartphones.
Vulnerability to
Online Crimes
• Cyberbullying - harm is done when
the bully tells something derogatory
about someone and then posts and
shares it using social media.
Activity #1: Read the following statements carefully.
Identify the type of issues in media is being describe in
each number.
1. This pertains to a virtual representation in virtual
world.
2. This refers to the gap or difference in access to
technology between nations, regions and based on
demographic factors such as Income, race and age.
3. It denotes the proper attitude that one should observe
when communicating online.
4. This idea is the appropriate standard how a
person should behave and act with proper decorum
according to what the society dictates.
5. The act where you feel like you cannot live
without your gadgets.
6. The idea of threatening, harassing, sending
mean messages, or even making fun of a person
using computers or smartphones.
7-8. Give two common types of
digital divide.
9-10. Cite two examples of netiquette.

• Create an infographic paper showing
basic rules of netiquette or good
netiquette. Do it in a separate sheet of
paper.

• Create an comic strip showing how to
be a responsible user of social media as
a student. Do it in a separate sheet of
