What is a Research Report?
-is the systematic, articulate, and orderly
presentation of research work in a
written form. It involves relevant information
on the research work carried out .
Parts of a Research Report
A. Preliminary Section
1. Tittle Page
- Contains an informative title that describes
the content of the paper, the name of the authors,
addresses, or affiliations and date of submission.
2. Acknowledgement
-The acknowledgement section is your opportunity to thank
those who have helped and supported you personally and professionally
during your thesis or dissertation process.
- Thesis or dissertation acknowledgements appear between
your title page and abstract and should be no longer than one page.
3.Table of Contents
-It is where you list the chapter and major
sections of thesis, dissertation, alongside their page numbers.
A clear and formatted table of contents is essential, as it
demonstrates to your reader that a quality paper will follow.
4. List of Tables and Figures
-A list of figures and tables compiles all of the figures
and tables that you used in in your thesis or your dissertation and
displays them with the page number where they can be found.
6.Abstract
- An abstract is a concise summary of a research paper or
entire thesis. It is an original work, not an excerpted passage.
-An abstract must be fully- self contained and make sense
by itself, without further reference to outside sources or to the
actual paper.

B. Main Body
1.Introduction
- the part where research focus is presented by addressing the identified gaps
in the topic, it puts the research topic in context and is usually read to 5 paragraphs
long , introduction includes the following;
A. Statement of the problem
-which is the heart of the research report, the research
questions embodied the main problem of the research.
B. Significant of the Problem in Historical Background
-which comment on why those question recquires
investigation.
C. Purpose
- which identifies the goal to be gained from a better understanding
of the question.
D. Statement of Hypothesis
- is stated in one statement and declared the question
which is investigated in the expected results
E. Assumptions
- which explains everything that is assumed in order for the investigation to
undertaken.
F. Limitation
-it explains the limitations that may invalidate the study or make it less than
accurate.
G. Definition of Terms
- defines or clarify any term or concept that is used in the study in a non-
traditional manner or in only one of many interpretations.
H. Ethical Considerations
-it discusses the ethical issues related to the study and explains the
processes and status of the review.
I. Budget
- which outlines and discusses the budget for the
study
F. Proposed Timeline
- it outlines the expected schedule for beginning and
ending of each part of the research project.

2. Review of Related Literature
- this part contains the summary and synthesis of all available sources directly related
to the study. In the research, report the Literature Review is divided into two sections; The Related
Concept, and The Related Study.
3. Designs of the Study
-refers to the overall strategy that you choose to
integrate the different components of the study in a coherent
and logical way, thereby, ensuring you will effectively address
the research problem; it constitutes the blueprint for the
collection, measurement and analysis of data.
In the Designs of the Study it includes:
Description of Research Design and Procedures Used
Sources of Data
Sampling procedures
Methods and Instruments of Data Gathering
Statistical Treatment
4. Analysis of Data
- which describes the patterns observed in the data.
It uses tables and figures to help clarify the materials than
possible.
5. Summary and Conclusions
-Summary refers to the concise statement or account of the
key points of a text, research or essay. The conclusion is that
section of the text, essay or book which serves as the final
answer to the research question.
Summary and Conclusion also includes:
Restatement of the Problem
Description of procedures
Major Findings
Conclusions
Recommendations for Further Investigation
Final Part of Research Report
C. Reference Section
-It contains the different sources used in the study. This may be academic books, journals
and other online sources.
Its format depends on the school, teacher, or field of the study.
Reference Section may also include the following:
1. End Notes
- which are like foot notes but are located at the back rather than the bottom of each page.
2.Bibliography or Literature Cited
- the bibliography reference for each of the word cited in the end notes.
3. Appendix
- which refers to any tables, figures, forms or other materials that are not total essential to
the analysis.
