Net Zero

Implementation
Strategies
Why is Net Zero Important?
Why is Net Zero Important?
Why is Net Zero Important?
Threat of climate change by keeping a global temperature rise this century well below 2 degrees Celsius above pre-
industrial levels and to pursue efforts to limit the temperature increase even further to 1.5 degrees Celsius.
What is Net Zero ?

A lower EUI indicates a more energy-efficient building, while a higher EUI indicates a less energy-efficient building.
How do we fix Net Zero?

 Habitual change
Behaviour Change Practices  No investment required
1st Priority

 Technology Change
Energy Efficient appliances  Requires Investment
2nd Priority

 Solar energy for Electricity and

Energy Conservation in Lighting
 Make use of natural light.
 Use light colored paints for room interiors (wall & roof) which has
less absorption.
 Review lighting arrangement- sufficient or extravagant
 Clean fittings (reflectors, shades, lamp surface etc.) periodically.
 Use energy efficient tubes and LED lighting schemes (LED Panel
lights, Retrofit Bulbs, Flood lights etc.)
 Light selection depending on- usage, location, hours of operation
and aesthetics.
 Use Task lighting (Table lamps, workshop lamps etc.) for specified
tasks.
 Use 0.5W LED Bulbs to replace 15W (Zero Watt) Bulbs.

Energy Conservation in Ventilation
 Natural ventilation
 Provide sufficient balanced gap on top
 Don't use Resistor based Speed
regulators
 Clean fans regularly
 Use BEE – 5 star rated / BLDC fans
Power (Watts) at various speed Delivery *Service
Type M3/min Value
1 2 3 4 5

Regular Ceiling fan 14 25 39 48 76 230 3.2 to 4.0

*Service value is a ratio of the air delivery and the power
consumption.
Energy Conservation in Ventilation
Energy Conservation in Cooling
 Proper selection – Required Tonnage for required Space
 Proper installation – Well thermally insulated refrigerant lines,
suitable placing of outdoor unit etc.
 Remove filament / halogen based bulbs from air-conditioned
space
 Proper maintenance (periodic checking/filter cleaning),
 Set temperature at 24-25 deg Celsius.
 Use BEE – 4 star rated or 5 star rated Inverter ACs
Type Capacity Control *ISEER

Ordinary Split A/C ON – OFF, Single Speed 2.71 to 3.57

4 Star rated Split A/C ON – OFF, Single Speed 3.6 to 4.53
5 Start rated Inverter Split A/C Variable Speed > 4.6

 Cover liquids and wrap food 4 star 168

 Position – free air circulation 5 star 135

 Place hot food materials only after lowering

to normal room temperature.
 Reduce no of door openings by
proper organizing.
 Set freezer and refrigerator at
recommended
temperature
Energy Conservation in Washing
 Use recommended quantity of water and detergent.
 Front loading is better than Top Loading.
 Use hot water (from solar heater) which increases the
dirt removal and oily content of the active matter in the
detergent.
 Consider natural drying.
 Try not to use during peak hours.
 Avoid Wash at partial loads.
 Seldom Use Heating mode.
 Undergo preventive maintenance once in every 6
months.
 Use BEE Star Labelled (Voluntary scheme)
washing machine.

Energy Conservation in Cooking
 Allow cold stored food to reach room
temperature Pre Cooking.
 Close the lid and cook, saves more
energy and time.
 Use pressure cooker more often.
 Ensure size of utensil more than that of
burner chosen
 Use Thermal cooker where ever
Necessary.
 Check the burner periodically, blue
flame
is the right for the burner.
 Put the burner in minimum position
when the water boils.
 Switch to Electric Water Purification
and
save LPG – 21 kg average annually

 Solar Water heater enables an optimal utilization of solar energy.

 PUF (polyurethane foam insulation) insulated stainless steel storage tank prevents heat loss.
 Solar Water heaters dramatically reduce your electricity bills, help conserve energy and are environment
friendly.
 These water heaters work on solar energy and are available in quite a few capacity options.

Energy Conservation – Typical case of a
House
Best Practices
 Switch off lights and appliances not in use
 Set your AC temperature to 24°C. Reducing each degree by 1°C will increase energy
 Set ceiling fan speed to step 3 and save energy by 25% - 40%
 Clean your air conditioner filter once in a month and improve cooling at
no
additional electricity cost
 Install a rooftop solar power plant and cut down electricity bill
 Switch to LED Bulbs and tube lights to save energy by 50% - 85%
 Switch to Brushless DC fans and save energy up to 50% - 60%
 Replace aged appliances and equipments with BEE Star Labelled ones
 Switch to E-Mobility
 Frame an Energy Policy
 Design and use Energy Saving Posters, Stickers etc.
