• UNESCO is the United Nation
Educational, Scientific and Cultural
organization.
• It contribute to peace and security
by promoting international
cooperation in education, sciences,
culture, communication and
information.
• UNESCO’s programs contribute to achievement of the
sustainable development goals defined in the 2030
Agenda, adopted by the UN General Assembly in 2015
• As early as 1942, in wartime, the
governments of the European countries,
which were confronting Nazi Germany and
its allies, met in the United Kingdom for the
Conference of Allied Ministers of Education
(CAME).
• Founded on November 16, 1945
-In their eyes the new organization was to
established the “intellectual and moral
solidarity of mankind”
• UNESCO provide global and regional
leadership in education, strengthen
education systems worldwide and respond
to contemporary global challenges through
education with gender equality as an
underlying principle

• -The Education for all (EFA)
movement is a global commitment
to provide quality Basic Education
for all children, youth and adults.
• -The movement was launched at
the world conference on Education
for all in 1990 by UNESCO, UNDP,
UNFPA, UNICEF and the world
bank.

Goal 1. Expand early childhood care and education.
Goal 2. Provide free and compulsory primary education
for all
Goal 3. Promote learning and life skills for young
people and adults
Goal 4. Increase adult literacy by 50 percent.
Goal 5. Achieve gender parity by 2005, gender
equality by 2015.
Goal 6. Improve the Quality of education. 6
As the lead agency, UNESCO has been
mandated to coordinate the
international efforts to reach Education
for all. Government organization and
the media are but some of the partners
working towards reaching these goals
