CHAPTER ( 2 )

Describing data
frequency distributions & graphic presentation
Constructing a frequency distribution steps :
(1) Range = Highest value – lowest value
(2) Find No. of classes ( K )
Where 2K > n
n : No. of observations
Range
(3) Class interval ( i ) = ‫ــــــــــــــــــــــــــــ‬
K
N.B:
Class interval approximate (appx.) to upper nearest unit
3.7 ~ 4 3.2 ~ 4

Construct the frequency table :

Class Frequency

Lowest value By count No. of

+ class interval items in each class
.... till Highest value by tallies
Ex :

65 98 55 62 79 59 50 90 72 56

70 62 66 80 94 79 63 73 71 85

Find : Frequency distribution.

Ex : 65 98 55 62 79 59 50 90 72 56
70 62 66 80 94 79 63 73 71 85
Find : Frequency distribution.
Sol : - Range = 98 – 50 = 48
- No. of classes (K) 2K > 20 K= 5
- Class interval ( i ) = 1048~ 9.6 = ‫ـــــــــــ‬
