Module Objectives
1. Recognize individuals responsible for preventive
maintenance for specific feed manufacturing equipment
and/or processing centers
2. Identify how suggested preventive maintenance
requirements and frequency for specific feed manufacturing
equipment are developed
3. Identify animal feed hazards associated with suggested
preventive maintenance requirements and schedule
frequencies
4. Recognize documentation associated with preventive
maintenance
Importance
• Proper operating condition to avoid unexpected failures
and unplanned production loss.
• Fulfill design load or lifetime use
Maintenance Personnel
• Size dependent
• May be comprised of several employees with different areas of
expertise
– Mill Manager – primary individual responsible for mill
maintenance
– Maintenance Department
• Maintenance Supervisor – maintains and manages
preventive maintenance schedules
• Electrician – performs maintenance according to schedule
• Mechanic – performs maintenance according to schedule
• Operator – performs maintenance according to schedule
Types of Maintenance
1. Periodic or Routine
2. Reactive or Corrective
3. Preventive
