2. SAP RICEFW: Reports
3. SAP RICEFW: Interfaces

7. SAP RICEFW: Workflow
8. Conclusion & Key Takeaways
Definition of SAP RICEFW
 SAP RICEFW refers to Reports (R), Interface (I),
Conversion (C), Enhancements (E), Forms (F) and
Workflow (W).These components are essential for
customizing & extending SAP systems to meet
specific business requirement.

 Reports provide insights through data visualization,

Interfaces enable data exchange with external
systems, Conversions handle data migration tasks,
Enhancements add custom functionalities, Forms
improves user interface & Workflows automate
business processes.
SAP RICEFW: Reports
 Reports: A SAP report is an executable program that reads
data from the database and generates output based on the
filter criteria selected by the end user. It is like display of
data based on some selection. Execution of a SAP report
almost never leads to an update of the database.

 Standard SAP reports — ex. FBL3N,MD04 etc.

 Custom reports – Z or Y developments

 Sap query - SAP Query is used to create reports not already

contained in the system. It has been designed for users with
little or no knowledge of the SAP programming language
ABAP.
SAP RICEFW: Interfaces
 Interfaces - Connection between two systems are nothing but
Interface. An interface is essentially a channel between SAP
systems and non-SAP systems. For example, during shipping,
an organization may use a third-party logistic system to pack
and ship deliveries. For this, SAP delivery information will be
sent to the external third-party system. Then the shipment
information is received in SAP through a middleware.

 These EDI(Electronically data Interchange) communications

are done through SAP Interfaces, and IDOCS are used to
transfer data.
 IDOCS- Intermediate documents
 ALE- Application Link Enabling
 RFC- Remote function call
SAP RICEFW: Conversion

 Conversion - A Conversion means data that is converted

from one format to another format and from one system
to another & SAP should read any kind of file format

 So when you first implement SAP, you are actually

replacing some of your legacy systems, You still need
some of that data from the systems that are being
replaced. So you pull the data out of your legacy
systems and put them on some files. You then want to
load that data into your new SAP system. That is when
you write some programs which will read that data and
load it into SAP.
Ex: BDC, LSMW, LTMC etc.
SAP RICEFW: Enhancements
 Enhancements - Enhancements are the
means by which we add our own/ modify
existing functionality to SAP’s standard
business applications.
 Some requirements from the client cannot be

met with Standard SAP. That time we need to

go for enhancements. Normally
enhancements are done through user exits,
customer exits, BADI’s and enhancement
frameworks
SAP RICEFW: Forms
 Forms - Forms are nothing but printouts taken from
SAP like APP-Payment advice, Dunning letters &
Cheque also printed as per corporate requirement.
These forms can be the development of layouts for
invoices, account statements, delivery notes, purchase
order print, etc.

 SAP Standard provides a template for all these forms.

Standard SAP comes with pre define letter
formats/layout and design of the forms. If they do not
meet specific business requirements (i.e. company
logo or print legal text) during this time we need to
develop custom forms in coordination with ABAP team.
SAP RICEFW: Workflow
 Workflow - Workflow, as the name suggests, means of
flow of work, may be from one person to another
person. Workflow refers to the sequential flow of
transactional data from one level to another as per the
organization’s hierarchy.

 For example, budget approvals handling. A purchase

order is created for a value and sent to the manager for
approval. When approved, it will go to the VP for further
approval, and so on until signed off. For this functional
consultant coordinate with ABAP team and will provide
the details like what data has to be sent, under which
condition this workflow to be triggered.
Conclusion & Key Takeaways
 SAP RICEFW encompasses Reports, Interface, Conversion,
Enhancements, Forms and Workflow & best practices for
efficient system customizations. By effectively utilizing SAP
RICEFW components, organizations can tailor SAP system
to their unique needs, enhance operational efficiency &
drive business growth.

 SAP RICEFW is crucial for organizations seeking to

maximize value of their SAP investments by customizing
system functionalities, improving user experiences &
aligning SAP processes with business objectives. SAP
RICEFW enables organizations to adapt to changing market
dynamics, drive innovations & stay competitive in the
digital era.
