What is Psychometric test??

‘Psych’-‘Mind ‘ & ‘Metric’-‘ Measurements’

 Simply means measuring one’s mind.

 Scientific ways to explore a person’s attitude,


skills and interests to assess their personality
and behavior.
• A window that reveals the suitability of an individual
for better understanding of an individual’s conditioning.

Consists of tests such as


1) Cognitive ability test
2) Aptitude test
3) Logical test
4) Reasoning test.
Example:

Just like in chemistry, we study


chemicals, here we study
capacity, strength and weakness
of Human-Mind.
Selection of the right candidates.

Screen individuals for college admissions.


Purpose
 To gauge an individual’s personality type,
behavioral traits and capacities.

 Invented to find out how better, capable


Human- being and be positive for a
particular subject matter.

 To discover unknown skills and talents.


Psychometric Test can be
categorized into two aspects
1) Cognitive skills Test
 How an individual handles and processes the data?
Eg: Communication skills, verbal test, numerical skills, logic and
reasoning skills, imagining skills and so on.

2) Personality and Behavioral Test.


 Tells about inclination and interest of the candidates
Eg: What are your strengths, characteristics, areas you can improve,
attributes, weaknesses and leadership skills and confident level.
Importance of Psychometric Skills

a) Gives a complete picture of your skills and


personality
b) An objective way of assessing your strength and
weakness to fit in a particular workplace.
c) Reveals your motives
d) Increases self awareness .
e) Helps in choosing career as well.
f) Advancement and successful planning.
g) Growth and development of an individual.
Some general examples of Psychometric Tests :
1) What is 15% of 650 ?

( It’s an example of psychometric test regarding numerical skill.)

2) What comes at number iv ?

i. 20 ii. 39 iii. 77 iv. …….


Here,

i. 20 X 2 – 1 ii. 39 X 2 – 1 iii.77X2-1
= 40-1 = 78-1 = 154 – 1
= 39 = 77 = 153

So, the answer is 153.


( It’s an example of psychometric test regarding reasoning skill.)
3) It’s a synonym word for Applying or Performing

Advantages of Psychometric skills

1) Its helps to pick the right person

 Company or Employer get to know more better about their


candidates. It will provide pre- information about how the candidate
goanna perform at work place.

2) It is highly time saving and cost- effective.


 Psychometric Test are taken very fast with in 10 to 20 minutes. It is
done online media also. So, its is highly time saving. Moreover, it
helps employer to choose the right candidate which will surely
benefit the company.
3) Accurate and Appropriate

 The results obtained from the tests are accurate and


appropriate. Its helps to make an objective assessment of
the candidate.

 4) It helps to reveal motives and Self –


awareness.
 Its helps students to know their real capabilities and areas
in which they need to improve. So, it helps to reveal
motives as well.
Disadvantages of Psychometric skills

1) Lack of Experts
 Lack of right training can be hindrance for psychometric test.
Even Employer may not have good idea on it. So, they need to
hire third party for it.

2) Nervous Candidates
 Thought candidates is capable during test she/he may get
nervous. So, may not be able to give their best.
3) False Answer

 Candidate may give false answer. Specially, in case of


personality test, candidate may give answer as per wish of
employer for manipulation them.

 4) Cultural and language barriers


 Cultural and language barriers also may not provide exact
result during psychometric test.
5) Inaccuracy:

 The characteristics of a person cannot be sure about as


either black or white, there may be possibilities for the
person to be grey.
