Plastic is ubiquitous in our lives because it is convenient and
Relo†ively inexpensive. It is convenience comes from being
lightweigh† and its ability to absorb impac† shock without breaking,
which on its own meri†, is hard to argue with.

At a Glance
India generated around 34.69 lakh tonnes per annum (TPA) of
plastics waste, as per the Annual Report of Central Pollution
Control Board (CPCB) for the year 2019-20.
A resolution was piloted by India on addressing Single-Use
Plastic (SUP) products pollution at the 4th United Nations
Environment Assembly (UNEA) held in Nairobi, Kenya in March
2019.
Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in his Independence
Day’s speech in 2019 gave a clarion call to make India free from
Single-Use Plastic.
The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change
notified the Plastics Waste Management (Amendment) Rules
2021 on 12 August 2021, prohibiting the manufacture, import,
stocking, distribution, sale and use of the identified Single-Use
Plastic items with effect from 1 July, 2022.
How Single-use Plastic is harmful?
Single-Use Plastic is the most popular kind of plastic due to its
easy access, cheap value and high use.
It has been estimated that nearly half of all plastic produced
around the world is designed for Single-use purposes – used just
once and then thrown away
