Barcelona gastronomy
• 1- PA AMB TOMÀQUET
• Born in 1884, in times of famine. The Catalans discovered a magic
formula for eating hard bread. It consisted of taking the stale bread,
cutting it into slices and spreading a tomato. Then, to soften it, they
were generously watered with olive oil.
• All local people, proudly, confess that this is one of the best inventions
of Catalan gastronomy.
• We eat it either at lunch, either at dinner. Actually, it is the best
accompaniment for any meal.

• 2- ESCALIVADA
• The escalivada is a Mediterranean dish. It is a salad of eggplants,
peppers, tomatoes, onions, salt, olive oil and vinegar. However, these
vegetables are not served raw, but have previously been covered with
a thin layer of fine olive oil and then baked. Delicious!
• The name comes from the Catalan verb escalivar, “to cook in ashes.”
In fact, it was the way of cooking the vegetables that gave the name
to the dish: vegetables prepared on the embers of a wood fire

• 3- FRICANDÓ
• It is a traditional dish of Catalan cuisine based on pork and / or veal
bait fillets. It makes a stir-fry and is cooked to simmer with
mushrooms, specially, “ceps”.
• It is one of the few traditional Catalan dishes that owes its origin to
the urban kitchen and not to the peasant.

• 4- SUQUET DE PEIX
• The “Suquet de Peix”, or also known as “cruet de peix“, is a recipe of
coastal origin.
• It is cooked and served in a casserole and the ingredients are basically
two: fish and potato. However, it is necessary to emphasize that the
fish must always be of hard meat (grouper, golden, scorpionfish,
monkfish …) and cooked over a sauce to which potatoes are added.
Today, it is even very likely that the “Suquet” will add seafood.

• 5- CREMA CATALANA
• One of the traditional Catalan desserts par excellence.
• Certainly, it is a dessert very similar to the “Crème brûlée”, rich base
of custard topped with a contrasting layer of hard candy. However,
the Catalan cream is lighter. The cream is seasoned with lemon peel
and a cinnamon stick. Exquisite!

• Barcelona is a showcase for the latest fashion trends. Walking through its streets is discovering a
world of possibilities for a day of shopping. From areas full of glamour and big brands with iconic
stores in emblematic buildings, such as Passeig de Gracia or Avenida Diagonal, to alternative and
innovative designs in areas such as the Born district. In addition, Barcelona is full of traditional
shops and you will have the opportunity to visit century-old shops and ateliers that surprise with
their attention to detail. The Mediterranean character and the streets full of atmosphere also set
trends in Barcelona. The possibilities are almost endless and range from popular visits, such as a
walk along Las Ramblas or traditional markets such as La Boquería, to relaxing breaks on the city
beaches or on the many terraces in the historic centre. You can even get to know the city in an
original way with the Barcelona Tourism visit programme. Its proposals include guided and
themed routes, tours in vintage cars, segways or bicycles, trips to the sea on a sailboat or
helicopter flights.
Necessities and suggestions in
Barcelona
• Barcelona attracts visitors with its must-see monuments such as the Sagrada
Familia, Park Güell, Casa Batlló and La Pedrera. But visitors discover a city that
always has pleasant surprises in store for every trip. Walks along the sea,
nights on rooftops with views of the city skyline, large green spaces such as
Parc de Montjüic or Ciutadella, the marina, the Olympic Barcelona or
everything that surrounds FC Barcelona are possibilities for living new
experiences on every visit. The gastronomic offer is also very varied and
combines world-renowned haute cuisine restaurants, traditional Catalan food
houses, gastronomic markets, places to travel the world through flavours...
Meanwhile, the cultural agenda includes important art centres, such as the
Museu Picasso, the National Museum of Art of Catalonia or CaixaForum, a wide
range of festivals and one of the great temples of opera in Spain, the Gran
Teatre del Liceu.
