Learning Competency

•Installing Electrical Wiring System Using

Circuit with One Lamp Controlled by
Two 3-way Switches in Different
Locations (TLE_IAE19-12EL-la-IIj-1).
A. Direction: Identify if the given statement is True
or False. Write your answer in your activity
notebook.
1. The 3-way switches do not have an on /off position like single
pole switch.
2. The 3-way switches are used to control lights with one switch.
3. Three-way switches have three terminals, one common
(usually black color).
4. Both switches are toggled down to create an open path, light
is off.
5. If right switch is toggled up to open the path, light is on.
B. Connect the missing connections of the
given diagram of two 3-way switch in
different locations. Write your answer in
your activity notebook.
Activity 1. Sketch and Plan!
• Direction: Based on the pictorial diagram below,
which is one lamp controlled by surface or flush type
single pole switch and a convenience outlet, draw the
actual connection diagram. Draw it in your activity
notebook.
Activity 2.1 Twisted Text!
Direction: Below are the different terms used in installing one lamp
controlled by two 3-way switches in different locations, arrange the
scrambled letters to form the correct answer. Write your answer in
your activity notebook.

1. LANMIRET
2. NECNOC IREW
3. REAB RWIE
4. ONOMMC
5. EVARTLRE
Activity 2. 2 Match Me!
Direction: Match column A with column B with the correct diagram
of one lamp controlled by two 3-way switches. Write your answer
in your activity notebook.
• The next common wiring system using circuit with one bulb
is the three-way switch, which is commonly used to control
a light fixture from two different locations. For example, a
long hallway or stairway might use a pair of three-way
switches at each end so that lights can be turned on when
approaching one end of the hall or stairway, then shut off
from the other end.
• The 3-way switches are used to control lights with two
switches. These switches do not have an on/off position like
single pole switches. It is important to understand how
these are wired before attempting to troubleshoot or
replace.
• The 3-way switches have three terminals, one
common (usually black color) and one pair of
travelers (usually brass color). With conventional
wiring, the common wire from one switch connects
to line, the common wire from the other switch
connects to the load (lights). The pair of travelers
on one switch connect to the pair of travelers on
the other switch. Usually, the common wire is
wrapped around the traveler wires for identification
in the 3-way light switch electrical boxes.
Activity 3: Picture Analysis
Direction: Analyze the picture/diagram below and
answer the guide questions in your activity
notebook.
Illustration A. In a house, S1 is located at the main entrance door
controlling L1, while S2 is located at the wall nearest the bedroom.
Illustration B.
Guide Questions:
1. What can you say about the
illustrations?
2. What can you say about its wiring
system?
3. If you are an expert, how will you do
the wiring installation differently?
Direction: Complete the paragraph by inserting
the correct words/terms. Copy and answer in your
activity notebook.
Direction: Make a line diagram using two lamp or bulbs in
which switch 1 and switch 2 having 3-way switches and
another lamp or bulb in which switch 3 and switch 4 having
also 3-way switches. Write your answer in your activity
notebook.
Direction: Think of a part in your house that you
need to install a circuit with 1 lamp controlled by
two 3-way switches and draw your plan.
