WHAT IS AN INTERVIEW ?
• An interview is a conversation where questions are asked and answers are given.

• A formal meeting between two people where the interviewer asks questions to the

interviewee to obtain information.

• Interviewer asks set questions designed to collect useful information and

evaluate the same question responses for each interviewee.

• Interview can be of many types like structured, unstructured and semi

structured.
OBJECTIVE OF

INTERVIEW
Verifying the facts provided by the candidate in their resume, cover letter and job
application.

• Providing the candidate with general facts and necessary descriptions about the
job and the company

• Enquiring about the interviewee's career goals and considering how it aligns with
the role.

• Checking the candidate's suitability for the job in terms of their personality and
attitude.

• Verifying if a candidate is a right fit for the company culture and work ethic.

• Informing the candidate about the company's expectations.


Types of Interview

• Face-to Face Interview. • The sequential interview .

• The telephonic interview • Behavioral Interview

• The panel interview • Stress Interview.

Different Kinds of Interviews

Face-To-Face Interview:

This is a traditional interview and the most common type. In


this interview the candidate and the interviewer meet face-to-
face.

Behavioural Interview:

This is a common type of job interview in the modern


workplace. This type of interview is based on the notion that
a job candidate’s previous behaviours are best indicators of

Telephonic Interview:

Telephonic Interviews take place if a recruiter wishes to dwindle


down the number of prospective candidates before deciding on a
shortlist for face-to-face interviews. They also take place if a job
applicant is a significant distance away from the premises of the
hiring company such as abroad or in another state.

Panel Interview:

Panel means a selection committee that is appointed for


interviewing the candidates. A Panel may include three or five
members. Questions are asked to candidates and marks are
given to each candidate. Final decisions are taken by all
members collectively by rating the candidates.
Different Kinds of Interviews
Exit Interview:

When an employee leaves the company, he is interviewed either by his


immediate superior or by the HRD manager. This interview is called an exit
interview.

Stress Interview:

A stress interview allows interviewers to see how well an interviewee works


under pressure. The interviewer attempts to find how applicants would
respond to aggressive, embarrassing, rude and insulting questions.

Technical Interview:

This kind of interview focuses on problem solving and creativity. The


questions aim at candidates problem solving skill, ability & creativity. These
interviews happen on a computer module with multiple-choice questions
sometimes.

• It is a face to face type interview.
• The job interview is considered
one of the most useful tools for
evaluating potential employees.
• A job interview typically precedes
the hiring decisions.
INTERVIEW IS NOT A ONE WAY PROCESS:

• The interviewer is assessing the Interviewee for the suitability of the job or
position.
• The interviewee is assessing whether the job is suitable to him with all
related perks.
• Therefore, it is a two way process of communication.
Preparation Before Interview

• Do your homework. Learn as much as you can about the company before the
interview.

• Read the job description carefully. Pick the keywords.

• Know where you need to report on the interview day. Drive by the site of the
interview a day or two day before the interview.

• Arrive 15-30 minutes early. There is no excuse ever for arriving late to an
interview.

• Be prepared to go to the interview. Bring extra copies of resume, notepad, pen.

listening, and nodding.

• Be attentive, listen carefully, and lean forward
• Don't lean on the table, and don't slouch
• Don't toss your files across
• Hand over your file-right side facing them
• Don't laugh or giggle but smile gently
• Be polite. Use the words "Please" and "thank you"
• Don't argue but you can orally acknowledge

• Be positive in your communication (Remember: you
are selling yourself!!), don’t slouch, try not to be too
bold or too shy. Let the interviewer lead the interview.
Express that you are happy to have the opportunity to
give the interview.
• When all else fails: SMILE!!
• Always face the interviewer with good posture and
body language.
• Stay positive with your attitude and your answers. Let
the interviewer know about your skills, knowledge and
experience that make a qualified candidate.

• Ask the job-related questions you prepared for the interview.
• You may be offered the job immediately. In that case, you should
ask about specific salary, benefits, and work hours. You may also
ask for a day to think.
• If you are told you will be contacted, ask about how long it will be.
Offer to call in a few days to find out the decisions. This shows
your continued interest.
• Make sure the interviewer knows how best to contact you and
that you are available for any additional information that may be
needed.
• Thank for the person for the interview and their interest in you as
a potential employee.
