Using stick figures from the library
 Pivot Animator by default
provides a human stick figure
that consists of segments
connected by pivoting joints.
 Each segment of the figure
has red dots known as
segment handles.
 The figure also has one
orange dot known as origin
handle.

Steps to use the stick figures
Step 1: Click the File menu and select the Load Figure Type option.
Step 2: A window with a list of different figure options will be
displayed on screen as follows.

Step 3: Select a figure of your choice and click Open. The selected
stick figure is displayed on the screen.

Edit mode
It allows you to change the
length of the joints of a stick
figure by dragging its handle
without changing the
position of any other joint.
Thus, the length of the
segments connected to the
moved joint also change.

Creating new stick figures
Step 1: Select the Create Figure Type option from File
menu, or select the Edit Figure Type option from the
Frame Controls to open the Stick Figure Builder
window.
Step 2: Select File New in the Stick Figure Builder
window to create a new stick figure of your own.
Step 3: Click the Edit Mode option from the Edit menu to
enable the Edit Mode.

Step 4: Use the Add circle and


Add Line options to draw your
own stick figure.
Step 5: Click on the segment
handles to split the segment into
multiple joints.

Pivot Animator saves these stick figures in the .STK file


format by default.

Selecting and Deselecting multiple figures

To select all figures in the frame, click on the Select All Figures
option in the Edit menu or use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + A

Rotating and Flipping stick figures
Once multiple figures are selected, they can be
considered as a single object to perform many
operations such as change colour, delete, flip,
duplicate the selected figures.

Joining and Unjoining figures

Step 1: Select the figure that has to be joined to the other figure.

Step 2: Click the Join/Unjoin option. All handles of the other figure
that can be joined to the selected figure will turn white.

Step 3: Click the handle to which the
selected figure has to be joined. The
selected figure will be joined to the
clicked handle at its origin handle.
In the given image, the man is joined to
the origin joint of the ladder.
To unjoin, select the joined figure and
click on the Join/Unjoin button. The
figures will no longer be joined and can
be moved separately.

Adding a background to the animation
Step 1: Draw a simple background in paint as shown below:

Step 2: Select the File Save As option from the main menu to
save the file. Provide a suitable name and click Save to save the file.

Step 3: To add a background image in Pivot Animator, select the
File Load Background option from the menu bar. Select the
desired file and click Open.

Step 4: The background image will be loaded directly into the
animation editing area.

You can follow the same steps to add a downloaded image as a


background in Pivot Animator. It supports image file formats such
as BMP, JPEG, GIF and PNG.

Background Selector

It allows you to set the background by using images that are


already loaded into the animation. To display a background
selector, click the Background button on the main window when
at least one image has been loaded into the animation software.

Adding sprites

To add sprites: File ‘Load Sprite Image’


Sprites are images that can be moved, scaled or rotated in the
same way as a figure. You can create your own sprite in MS Paint
or download it from the internet and load it into Pivot Animator.

Exporting an animation

Step 1: Select the File Export


Animation option from the main
menu to export the animation file. The
Save As window will appear.
Step 2: Provide a suitable name to the
file and click on Save. Pivot Animator
by default saves the file in GIF file
format. The Animated Gif Options
window then appears.

Exporting an animation

Step 3: Here, you can change the size


of the GIF. Click OK once you enter the
desired size. The animation file gets
saved in the GIF file format. When you
click on the saved file, it opens in the
web browser as an animated GIF
image file.
