Operating System

An operating system is a set of program designed to


manage the computer resources efficiently.
Operating systems are types of system software.
Operating systems are set of programs that controls
the way a computer works and runs other programs.
Types of operating System
1. Single-user/single task OS: This allows only one user at
a time, and only one task could be carried out on it. E.g Ms-
DOS
2. Single-user/multi-task OS: This allows only one user at
a time, and more than one task could be carried out on it. E.g
Windows OS.
3. Multi-user/multi-task OS: This allows more than one
user at a time, and more than one task can be carried out on
it. E.g UNIX
4. Network OS: This OS is very similar to the multi-user
multi-task system. The main difference is that here all the

Functions Of Operating System

1. It tells the computer processor how to operate
