The Seven Sister States is a
popular term for the
contiguous states
of Arunachal Pradesh,
Assam, Meghalaya,
Manipur, Mizoram,
Nagaland and Tripura prior
to inclusion of the state of
Sikkim into the North- Eastern
Region of India.
FLORA AND
FAUNA -
ASSAM
Around 21% of Assam is covered by
forest. The state has a rich biodiversity
and is also gifted with varieties of flora
and fauna which include the world
famous one-horned Rhinoceros, Royal
Bengal tiger, elephant, Gangetic
dolphin, swamp deer, golden langur,
pigmy hog, wild buffalo, stump-tailed
macaque, pig-tailed macaque, hispid
hare etc… while the important birds
found in the state include Bengal
floricans, stork, white-winged wood
duck, spot-billed pelican, king vulture
etc...

MEGHALAYA
Around 30% of total land in Meghalaya is
under forest cover.
The forests of Meghalaya are a treasure
house of valuable products such a timber,
fuel wood, fodder, resin, tannin, gums,
shellac, fiber, latex, essential oils, fats,
edible fruits, honey and a large number of
medicinal plants.
Meghalaya is a storehouse of richly varied
and colorful orchids , which grow all over
the Khasi, Jaintia, and Garo Hills in the
meadows, hill-slopes, swamps, and even
on the roadside.

NAGALAND
Plantation species such as Pine species,
Eucalyptus, Teak, Gomari and Silver Oak
has become a part of the vegetation. The
forest is also rich in orchid. Of the more
than 100 species found, Blue Vanda, Red
Vanda, Queen Neclace, Ladies Slippers
and Tiger Orchid are the dominant ones.
Varieties of bamboo are found in patches
throughout the District.
Dominant wild animals includes Stag,
Bear, Mithun, Sloth, Barking Deer,
Mountain Deer, Wild Hog, the rare
Pangolin, Elephant, Flying Fox, Flying
Squirrel, Himalayan Giant Squirrel and
other different varieties of squirrels.

MIZORAM
With its deep gorges between the hills
and falls, green valleys and streams,
Mizoram is blessed with natural beauty.
Animals like Hoolock gibbon, Slow
lorries, Common Langur, Rhesus
macaque, Himalayan black bear,
Leopard, Sambar, Barking Deer,
Binturong, Chinese pangolin, and more.
Among the cat families, Tiger ,
Leopard , Golden Cat , Jungle Cat ,
Leopard Cat , Marbled Cat and Fishing
Cat are present in the State.

TRIPURA
Trees of Sal, Chamal, Garjan
and Kanak exist predominantly.
The secondary species consist
of Pichla, Kurcha, Awla, Bahera,
Hargaja, Amlaki, Bamboos and
grasses.
Elephants, Bison, Barking deer,
Wild goat apart from many
other animals and reptiles.

ARUNACHAL
PRADESH
The wildlife of Arunachal is equally rich
and varied. Elephants and tigers abound,
especially in the grassy foothills and the
leopard and jungle cat are quite common.
The white browed gibbon is found in Tirap
and Lohit districts and red pandas and
musk deer in the higher ranges.
The medicinal plants Coptis Teeta(Mishmi
Teeta) is an endemic species and Taxus
baccata are available here.
The bamboo of the variety
Dendrocalamus Hamiltonii is found in
abundance.

MANIPUR
Blessed with an amazing variety of flora and fauna,
67% of the geographical area of Manipur is hill tract
covered forests.
The huge variety of flora of Manipur also serves as the
home to a number of fauna
species. Hoolock Gibbon, Clouded Leopard, Sloe
Loris, Spotted Linshang, Barbacked Pheasant,
Burmese Peafowl, Blyths Tragopan etc are the
common species found in Manipur.
