THE DEPARTMENT OF TOURISM (DOT)
The Department of Tourism (DOT) is the primary
government agency charged with the responsibility to
encourage, promote and develop tourism as a
major socio-economic activity; to generate foreign
currency and employment and to spread the
benefits of tourism to a wider segment of the
population, and to assure the safe, convenient,
enjoyable stay and travel of foreign and local
tourists in the country.
The Department of Tourism is headed by the
Secretary of Tourism who is assisted by three
undersecretaries and one assistant secretary.
The Undersecretary for Planning, Product
Development, and Coordination is responsible for the
Office of Tourism Development Planning, Office of Product
Research and Development, as well as the Office of Tourism
Coordination.
The Undersecretary for Tourism Service is responsible for
the Office of Tourism Standards, National Capital Region, and
all Regional Offices.
The Undersecretary for Tourism Promotions is
responsible for the Bureau of Domestic Promotions, Bureau of
International Tourism Promotions, as well as the Office of
Tourism Information.
 Five attached agencies help the DOT perform its functions.
These are the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise

TOURISM INFRASTRUCTURE AND ENTERPRISE ZONE
AUTHORITY (TIEZA)
Formerly known as the Philippine Tourism
Authority (PTA)
It is a corporate body tasked to designate, regulate,
and supervise Tourism Enterprise Zones (TEZ) while
developing, managing, and overseeing tourism
infrastructure projects in the country, primarily
aimed at encouraging investments in TEZs.
TIEZA's main tasks include building tourism
infrastructure, designation, regulation, and
supervision of Tourism Enterprise Zones
 It is the principal agency responsible for the timely
collection of travel taxes, 50% of which shall
accrue, while 40% goes to CHED and 10%
shares for the National Commission for the

TOURISM PROMOTIONS BOARD (TPB)
 Formerly known as the Philippine Convention
and Visitor’s Corporation (PCVC).
 An attached agency of the Department of Tourism,
the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) exists to
market and promote the Philippines
domestically and internationally as a world-
class tourism and MICE destination, in
strategic partnership with private and public
stakeholders to deliver a unique high-value
experience for visitors, significantly contributing to

 It was established in 1979 by virtue of
Presidential Decree (PD) no. 1616 signed by
President Ferdinand Marcos on April 10, 1979.

NATIONAL PARKS DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE
(NPDC)

 It is a government agency that is tasked to


oversee national parks in the Philippines.
 It was established primarily to develop and maintain
national parks specifically the Rizal Park or Luneta,
Paco Park, the Pook ni Maria Makiling, and
Burnham Park.

The NPDC has the following functions:


 Undertake the development of new parks;
 Upgrade and maintain park facilities;
 Develop and operate cultural and educational programs;
 NPDC aims to provide the general public with
access to and enjoyment of an open park,
showcase national heritage that will promote
Filipino arts, culture, and tradition, develop new
parks and a conducive business climate

 It was attached to the DOT in 1991 under E.O. No.

 It aims to promote, encourage, and initiate
research and development projects and
activities in social sciences, humanities,
social and ameliorations, and allied fields.

 It shall be a body corporate to operate the


duty-and-tax-free merchandising system

facilities for tourists and to generate
foreign exchange and revenue for the
