INTRODUCTION

Social forestry refers to the management and protection of forests by local


communities for sustainable use and socio – economic benefits . It aims to
integrate ecological conservation with the improvement of livelihoods, especially
in rural and forest department areas . This concept involves community
participation in activities like afforestation ,reforestation ,agroforestry ,and
conservation of natural resources .
Social forestry is a concept in forestry that focuses on the active participation of
local communitas in forest management and conservation
The primary goal is to involves communities in planting , maintaining ,sustainable
using forest resources to meet there needs for fuel ,food, shelter as well generate
incomes
TYPES OF SOCIAL FORESTRY
AS PER THE NATIONAL COMMISSION ON AGRICULTURE SOCIAL
FORESTRY DIVIDED IN TO THREE TYPES
1. URBAN FORESTRY
2. RURAL FORESTRY
3. FARM FORESTRY
 URBAN FORESTRY
Urban forestry refers to raising ad management of trees on public on
private owned lands I and around urban centres such as greenbelt park
road sides along industrial ad commercial green belt etc
RURAL FORESTRY
• Rural forestry is a broad term encompassing various forestry practice at meeting
the needs of rural community

• It involves the management and protection of forests, as well as the planting of


trees on non-forest land

• there are two broad types of rural forestry


I. Agroforestry
II. Community forestry
1.Agroforestry –combining tree planting with agriculture to improve productivity and
sustainability.
2.Community forestry-development of forest on community –owned lands with
shared benefits .
3.FARM FORESTRY

farm forestry refers to the process under which farmers grow trees for
commercial and non-commercial purpose on there farm land
BENEFITS OF SOCIAL FORESTRY

1.Ensure supply of basic needs of community by supply to timber ,


fodder ,and fuel
2.Proveded employment opportunity
3.Popularise economic trees farming along with crop farming
4.Protect Agri crops against strong winds
5.Check soil erosion ,conserves ,soil and water to maintain ecological
balance
6.Icresed biodiversity
7.Improve air quality
8.Noise reduction
OBJECTIVES OF SOCIAL FORESTRY
 Increasing forest and restoring ecological balance
 To meet the needs for fuel wood ,small timber , bamboo, fodder,
and other minor forest produce on sustained basic .
 To release cow dung as manure for increasing agricultural
production
 Ensure better land use: checking soil erosion ,animal husbandry
etc
 Controlling pollution

Social forestry represent a holistic approach to forest management


that integrate environmental , social , economic dimension . By
involving local communities in the stewardship of forest resources .
It not only enhance forest conservation but also contributes to
sustainable development and improved livelihoods.
