What is istikhara
prayer?
is a prayer performed by Muslims who are
in need of guidance from Allah Almighty
when facing a decision in their life. The
prayer is performed in two units of prayer
or raka'ah followed by the supplication of
Salat al-Istikhaara.

recommended sunnah. It
consists of two Rakahs that are
not obligatory.
Prophet Muhammad (sal..) used to
teach the companions Istikhara
in all matters as he would
teach them a Surah of the Qur’an
Meaning of istikhara

It means requesting
guidance from Allah and
asking him to choose what
is best for us in (worldly
and religious) matters by
seeking his assistance and
entrusting the matter of
choosing what is best to
him, as he knows best
what is best for his
servant.

acts of worship, such as giving
charity, performing Umrah.

These acts are simply embarked


upon when there are means and
when necessary causes and
conditions are available.

performed for all matters
in a Muslim’s life which he
is confused, hesitant and
unsure about. For
example, he can ask Allah
for guidance if he is
confused and unsure about
closing a particular
business deal, buying a car
or choosing a house.
Time of “istikhara “

Istikhara prayer has no


specific time: it can be
performed at all times, day
or night , except the times
in which it is rephrehensible
to pray. It is better to
choose those times in which
ones supplication (du’aa )
stands to be answered.
Benefits of
istikhara
It is considered one of the ways and means
that help a muslim in what he embarks
upon and resolves to do , shows him the
path of what is good for him, and directs
him to seek refuge with Allah in ever ph
matter and every condition, and therein lie
every Muslims welfare and happiness
