PEST CONTROL AND ANTI TERMIC
TREATMENT GIVEN TO WOOD
• What is a pest..?
• A pest is an organism that competes with human and other domestic
animals for food , water and shelter.
CATEGORIES OF PEST

REGULAR PEST : Frequently occurs in crops.

Ex: Rice stem borer, Brinjal fruit borer

OCCASIONAL PEST : Infrequently occurs.

Ex: caseworm on rice, mango stem borer
• SESONAL PEST : Occurs during particular
season
Every year.
• Ex: Red hairy catterpillar, Mango hoppers

PERSISTENT PEST: Occurs on the crop

throughout
the year and is difficult to control.
Ex: chilli thrips , mealy bug on guava
• SPORADIC PEST : Pest occur in Isolated localities
• During some period.
• Ex: coconut slug catterpillar
PEST CONTROL

• Pest control refers to regulation or management of a spicies defined as a pet,

usually because it is percieved to be deterimental to a person‘s health or
infrastructure.
• METHODS OF PEST CONTROL
• 1. Climate
• 2. Natural enemies
• 3. Geographical barriers
• 4. Food and water supply
• 5. Shelter
TERMITES

• These are social insects like ants. They

are also called
• White ants because of their
appearance.
• CLASSIFICATION OF TERMITIES:
• 1.Subterranean termites: They are the
type of termites which build their nest in
soil.

2.Non subterranean termites: These

types of termites are wood nesting which
live in wood with no contact to soil.
• DAMAGES BY TERMITES:
• * They damage indoor on walls.
• *They nest on walls.
• *They create holes on walls
• *They destruct the wooden doors
• ANTI TERMITE TREATMENT:
• It is a crucial chemical procedure conducted for soil, Masonry, wood
and electrical fixtures to establish a chemical barrier against
subterranean termites both before and after construction.
• TYPES OF ANTI TERMITE TREATMENT:
• 1. Pre construction
• 2. Post construction
• PRE CONSTRUCTION
• The most effective technique to avoid
termite attacks in building is to apply anti
termite treatment before construction.The
soil, building pillars and other joints are
treated with best termite chemicals to order
to prevent future attacks. Termite chemicsls
are used to treat the soil beneath the
foundation. To keep the termites out of
structure, a chemical barriers is created in
between Ground and foundation brick work.
• POST CONSTRUCTION
• This method is used on a structure that
is ready for occupancy or a home that is
already occupied.
• Termites will emerge from earth and
cause damage on all types of wood
furniture, doors and frames.
• The wood work which is badly damaged
by termites may be replaced by new
timber brushed with oil or kerosene
based chemical emulsion. The wood work
which is not attacked by termites may be
sprayed over with chemical emulsion to
prevent the possible attack.
• PREVENTIVE MEASURES
• Soil treatment establishes a barrier between termites and building.
• External surface in contact with building are treated with chemical
emulsion to a specific depth, effectively deterring termite ingress.
• Additionally treatment of cracks and voids in flooring and woodwork
junction further fortifies building against termite intrusion.
