Decile of Ungrouped Data
Decile of Ungrouped Data
for
Ungrouped Data
Objective:
- to illustrate and solve the
Decile of Ungrouped Data.
The Deciles are the nine score points which
divide a distribution into 10 equal parts.
They are deciles and are denoted as
D1, D2, D3 . . . , D9.
They are computed in the same way that the
quartiles are calculated.
D1 D2 D3 D4 D5 D6 D7 D8 D9
Example
Find the 3rd decile or D3 of the
following test scores of a
random sample of ten
students.
35 , 42 , 40 , 28 , 15 , 23 , 33 , 20 ,
18 , 28
35 , 42 , 40 , 28 , 15 , 23 , 33 , 20 ,
18 , 28
15 , 18 , 20 , 23 , 28 , 28 , 33 , 35 ,
3
40 , 42
Position of D3 10 ( n + 1 )
=
3
=10 ( 10 +
1)
23 - 20= 3
3 ( 11 )
=10 3( 0.3 ) =
3
= 10 0.9
20 + 0.9= 20.9
3
=3.3 the value of D3 = 20.9
Mrs. Marasigan is a
veterinarian. One morning, she
asked her secretary to record
the service time for 15
customers. The
following are service times in
20, 35, 55, 28, 46, 32, 25, 56,
minutes.
55, 28, 37, 60, 47,
52, 17
Find the value of the 2nd decile,
6th decile, 8th decile, and 7th decile.
ASSESSMENT
ACTIVITY
Given 50 multiple-choice items
in their final test in
Mathematics, the scores of 30
students are the following:
23 38 28 46 22 20 18 34
36 35
45 48 16 22 27 25 29 31
30 25
Calculate the following using the given
44 21 18 43data: 21 26 37 29
1. D1 3. D4 5. D7
13 37
2. D2 4. D5 6. D8
13 16 18 18 20 21 21 22
22 23 25 25 26 27 28 29
29 30 31 34 35 36 37 37
38 43 44 45 46 48
Calculate the following using the given
1. D1 data:
3. D4 5. D7
2. D2 4. D5 6. D8
Mr. De Leon gave a test to his
students in Mathematics. The
students finished their test in
35 minutes. This time is the
2.5th decile of the allotted time.
What does this mean?
This means that 25% of the learners finished the test.
A low quartile considered good, because it means the
students finished the test in a short period of time.
Alice is a secretary in one big
company in Metro Manila. His
salary is in the 8th decile.
Should Alice be glad about his
salary or not? Explain your
answer.
80% of the employees receive a salary that is less
than or equal to her salary and 20% of the employees
receive a salary that is greater than her salary. Alice
should be pleased with her salary.
