NETWORK TYPES:
There are mainly Four types of networks:
“LAN” stands for “LOCAL AREA
NETWORK” that connects
computers and devices into small

“METROPOLITAN AREA LAN extension to “LAN” “WLAN” is

TV’s etc… to each other.
NETWORK TOPOLOGIES:
In networking, Topology refers to layout structures of connected computers.
The three main types of network topologies are:
BUS TOPOLOGY: In this type of topology all
computers are connected through one single
cable called BUS. It is also known as Linear Network.
STAR TOPOLOGY: In this kind of Topology, A hub is placed at the centre, to which
all the computers are connected.
RING TOPOLOGY: In ring topology computers are inter connected in
a circular chain with 1st computer connected to second, Second conn-
-ected to Third and Third connected to 1st again.
COMMUNICATION CHANNELS:
Every single network is connected to each other through COMMUNICATION
CHANNELS.
There are mainly two types of Transmission Media:
PHSICAL INFRARED (IR)

ION MEDIA

COMMUNICATION PROTOCOLS:
A Communication protocol is a system or set of rules that allows two or more entities of a
communication system to transmit data VIA Communication channels.
The Different types of protocols for different operations are as follows:-
HTTP (HYPERTEXT TRANSFER PROTOCOL: This is a set of rules that defines and states that how
the data will transfer on the internet and what action will the browser take in response to every
command or instruction.
FTP (FILE TRANSFER PROTOCOL): This is a collection of rules that allow the uploadation of a file
and downloading it from a different operating system.
TCP/IP (TRANSMISSION CONTROL PROTOCOL/INTERNET PROTOCOL): This is a network protocol
that states how the data gets transmitted thorough the one end to the other end of a
communication channel.
POP3 (POST OFFICE PROTOCOL VERSION-3): This is an electronic mail protocol that stores E-Mail
messages on the server and allows the user, The manipulation, view and access to it after
downloading it.
IMAP (INTERNET MESSAGE ACCESS PROTOCOL): This is too an E-Mail protocol that stores E-Mail
messages on a mail server and allows the users to view and access the data similarly like POP3,
But when you read an E-Mail message using IMAP, you’re actually storing it to your computer.
SMTP (SIMPLE MAIL TRANSFER PROTOCOL): This is an E-Mail protocol for sending E-Mail messages
across the internet. SMTP was originally developed in early 1980’s.
