establishment of Philippine Normal
School (PNS) in Manila
- It became Philippine Normal College
(PNC) in 1949.
- it was in 1949 that teacher preparation
is 4 years.
1976
Former President Ferdinand Marcos issued the Presidential Decree (PD) 1006 known as the Decree
Professionalizing Teaching that teachers in the Philippines became professionalized.
PD 1006 required the licensure examination for teachers.
The examination was jointly conducted by the Civil Service Commission and the Department of Education.
1994
After PD 1006, another law on teachers’ professionalization was enacted.
It is known as the RA 7836 known as the Philippine Teacher Professionalization Act of 1994.
This acted created the board for professional teachers who are under the Philippines Regulation Commission
(PRC) that gives the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET).
2004
After the RA 7836, the RA 9293 otherwise known as an act amending certain sections of Republic Act 7836.
Section 15;€ (3) of RA no 7836 amended that for teachers in secondary grades, bachelors in degree education
as one of the qualifications or its equivalent with a major and minor or a bachelor’s degree in arts in sciences
with at least (18) units in professional education.
They add (8) units in the professional education as one of the qualification requirements of the applicant.
Another section they amend is the section 26 Registration and exemption where professional teachers who have
not practiced their profession for the past five years shall take at least (12) units of education courses.
