different operating systems

Microsoft developed the Windows

operating system in the mid-1980s. Over
the years, it has released many versions,
with the most notable recent ones being
Windows 10 (released in 2015), Windows 8
(2012), Windows 7 (2009), and Windows
Vista (2007).

Mac OS is a line of operating systems

created by Apple. It comes preloaded on all
new Macintosh computers, or Macs. All of
the recent versions are known as OS X
(pronounced O-S Ten), and the specific
versions include El Capitan (released in
2015), Yosemite (2014), Mavericks (2013)
Mountain Lion (2012), and Lion (2011).

Linux is a family of open-source operating

systems, meaning anyone around the world can
modify and distribute it. This is in contrast to
proprietary software like Windows, which can
only be modified by the company that owns it.
Some advantages of Linux include its free
availability and the wide variety of distributions
—or versions—you can choose from, allowing for
greater customization and flexibility.

Computers can only process and interpret

electronic data, which is known as Machine
Language. Machine Language consists of binary
digits, or bits, that serve as the basic code used
to instruct or command the computer. This is
where Operating Systems come in—they
convert our instructions and commands into the
electronic format that the computer

what is booting?

In computing, booting, also

known as initial program
load (IPL), is the process of
starting a computer as
initiated via hardware such
as a physical button on the
computer or by a software
command.
steps in booting?
1. When the user powers on the computer,
the CPU (Central Processing Unit) activates
the BIOS (Basic Input/Output System).

2. The first program that runs is POST

(Power-On Self-Test). Using the CMOS
(Complementary Metal-Oxide
Semiconductor) memory, it checks the
computer’s hardware to ensure everything
is functioning properly.

• Ensure the legitimacy of your

operating system. In most cases,
activation is automatic. However, if
you're prompted for a serial number
and product key before you can use
the product, you can find this
information in the CD case or
packaging that came with your
software.

Step 1: Create a Windows 11

Installation USB Go to Microsoft’s
official website, download the
Windows 11 installation media, and
follow the prompts to create a
bootable USB drive. This ensures
you have the necessary installation
files on the USB drive, which is
needed to boot your PC and install
Windows 11.

Step 2: Insert the USB drive into an

available USB port on your new PC.
This allows your PC to recognize the
bootable USB drive, which will be
used to initiate the installation
process when you power on the
system

Step 3: Restart your PC and enter the

BIOS/UEFI settings (typically by pressing a
specific key, such as F2, F12, Delete, or Esc,
during startup). Once in the BIOS/UEFI,
select the USB drive as the primary boot
device. By booting from the USB drive,
you're instructing your PC to run the
installation program directly from the USB
drive, rather than the regular hard drive.

Step 4: Once your PC boots from the USB

drive, the Windows 11 Setup screen will
appear. Click "Install Now" to begin the
installation process. This step launches the
installation program, where you'll follow the
on-screen instructions. Be sure to have your
Windows 11 product key ready in case
you're prompted for it.

Step 5: Complete the installation by

following the onscreen instructions. You’ll be
asked to select your language, time zone,
and keyboard layout, as well as choose
where to install Windows 11. These prompts
help customize the installation to your
preferences. During this step, you’ll also
partition your hard drive and set up your
primary Windows account.
