HOW DO YOU PLANT
YOUR DAUGHTER
CHURCH?
By BISHOP JOE VIRAY
MRCP CHAIRMAN
SOME THOUGHTS TO
PONDER:
If the first church did
not plant a church, how
would the church of
Christ still exist today?
If your church exists for many
years now without a daughter
church, It can never be a church of
Christ.
QUESTIONS TO PASTORS:
1. What did you do that you’re able to start your own
church?
2. Can you do it again?
3. Why do we train your members for ministry?
4. If you are not satisfied with the kind of church you
have started, why not start a new one that is better?
5. Do you have thoughts of a better generation of
believers that can meet the challenge of the new
normal?
PLANT A BETTER ONE!
LOOKING BACK:
1. Some of us have probably planted churches not
by choice and unintentionally, but the church still
exist today.
2. God knows that the church was a product of our
zealousness/ spiritual excitement to engage in
ministry work.
3. Some have purposely done it, again and again,
and they have planted more daughter churches.
THERE’S GOT TO BE A PATTERN,
A FORMAT, AND A COURSE TO
APPLY TO MAKE THINGS HAPPEN.
1. We need to have continued training
of leaders. MSM
The only problem is the quality we produce
when we run out of trained workers in the
ministry.
RULE: DO NOT SEND OUT
UNTRAINED, IMMATURE
AND NON- COMMITTAL
WORKERS.
2. We need to be updated in the new
normal of ministry.
The pandemic has changed and challenged us
to shift into the more effective way of
ministering.
.
Rule: Do not send out
untrained, immature and
non- committal workers.
3. We need to empower our leaders to
do the work of the ministry.
The main goal of the church planting is to reproduce
your own kind.
Then, you will eventually duplicate your church into
another community church.
Rule: Do not send out
untrained, immature and
non- committal workers.
YOU SHOULD NOT BE LIKE
the big churches that accumulate
believers who just sit and watch
every Sunday instead of multiplying
and duplicating community churches.
SO, HOW DO WE PLANT CHURCHES THAT CAN
PLANT CHURCHES?
This is a continuous process when you decide to
become a sower.
1. PRAY FOR GOD’S LEADING/ VISION/ TARGET
AREA/ TARGET PEOPLE
Make a study of your church membership,
the potentiality and opportunity where
they are located.
RULE: APPLY THE
PRINCIPLE OF SOWING.
LEAVE NO GROUND
UNPLANTED.
2. PREPARE YOUR TEAM–
IDENTIFY YOUR HOST
What do you need to connect and meet the
needs of the people you will reach-out?
• Create your church planting team to recognize
and empower them.
• Create your church planting fund and get
pledges and commitments.
RULE: THE COMMITMENT
OF THE HOST IS THE
FIRST STRENGTH OF
YOUR CHURCH PLANTING
3. KNOW THE PEOPLE IN YOUR TARGET AREA
You can conduct a survey, get information from
the Barangay and other connections.
RULE: SOWERS MUST
KNOW THE KIND OF SOIL
TO ENGAGE IN BEFORE
PLANTING
4. SET UP AN EVENGELISTIC ACTIVITY-
TO CONNECT
Feeding program, short evangelistic program.
RULE: SOWERS MUST KNOW
THE RIGHT KIND OF SEED TO
CAST THAT WILL PRODUCE A
HARVEST.
5. ANNOUNCE OR SCHEDULE YOUR FIRST
MEETING
Let your host do the invitation with the help of the team
if needed.
A beautiful invitation card will make it more personal, to
make them feel accepted and wanted in the meeting.
RULE: FIRST
IMPRESSION HAS
NO SECOND
CHANCE.
6. MAKE A SEEKER SENSITIVE- FRIENDLY
PROGRAM
• It should not take more of their time, be careful with the Christian
spiritual jargon.
• It should be simple but straight forward on the message of the
good news.
• Make an altar call if necessary to usher people to making
commitment to Christ.
• Let them sign a decision card for reference.
RULE: THEY ARE NEW
IN THE CHRISTIAN
WAY, MAKE IT SHORT
AND SIMPLE.
7. SET UP A FOLLOW- UP PLAN
• Follow- up, is when you reinforce your connection to your
prospects by a visit.
• You can make a short hi and hello meet up.
• Bring food snack as gifts for those you deemed potential.
• Pray for the person and the family.
RULE: NOT MORE
THAN AN HOUR
VISIT
8. SET UP A FOLLOW THROUGH ACTIVITY
• Follow- through is the activity or set up that encourages
continuous meeting together. Like a set up birthday party.
• You can now identify the different levels in age, affinity, and
interests.
• Organize Lifeline groups if necessary to strengthen the
fellowship and relationship.
RULE: DO NOT FORCE
ATTENDANCE. LET THE
LIFELINE MEETING
BECOME YOUR BAIT FOR
CONNECTION.
9. INTENSIFY YOUR INVITATION FOR THE NEXT
MEETINGS
• “Each One REACH One” campaign.
• Make it as their personal mission. Prepare invitation cards
• Give away Bibles and tracts.
RULE: GIVE THEM
A GOOD REASON
FOR COMING
10. TRANSFORM INTO A FELLOWSHIP MEETING
WHEN YOU HAVE THE RIGHT NUMBER AND
HAVE PREPARED THE PLACE OF THE MEETING
• A gathering of 25 people makes a potential regular fellowship
meeting.
• You must see to it that your team is prepared for this stage.
• Fellowship is the conception stage before for the birth of a
church congregation.
• This is where we simulate what we do in a regular church
assembly before it meets as a church.
This is the right time for the mother church to recognize and
dedicate the fellowship and their pastor and leaders for the
newborn church.
RULE: ONCE THEY
COMMIT TO BECOMING
A CHURCH, YOU HAVE
PLANTED A DAUGHTER
CHURCH!
11. TRANSFORM INTO A COMMUNITY CHURCH
• A gathering of 25 families makes a potential regular worship
service meeting.
• A nice sign board where you assemble will make it formal and
public.
“If people will look for your church, will you have enough sign
and direction for them to locate you?”
RULE: THE PASTOR AND
LEADERS OF THE NEW
CHURCH MUST ALWAYS
MEET WITH THE MOTHER
CHURCH’S LEADERSHIP FOR
EVALUATION AND
DIRECTION.
