How does solar work?
Solar panels convert sunlight into electricity using photovoltaic cells. Panels consist of silicon cells,
protective glass, and plastic/metal substrate.

There are various types of solar panels in the market, but the most popular are Monocrystalline
and Topcon solar panels:
Monocrystalline solar panels

High-efficiency level
Require less space
Lower degradation rate of 0.5% per

There are some new PV panel technologies coming up:
1.TOPCon (Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact): Utilizes a thin oxide layer between
polysilicon and crystalline silicon for high conversion efficiency.
What are the different types of solar power
systems available?
On-Grid solar system
On-Grid solar systems also known as Grid-tied solar systems are
connected to the electrical grid, and any excess energy produced can
be sold back to
the grid. In an on-grid system, the solar panels generate DC power, which is then converted by the inverter
into usable AC power.
One of the benefits of an on-grid system is that they do not require batteries since any excess energy
produced is stored in the grid. These are the most popular solar systems in India.
Off-Grid Solar System
These systems are not connected to the electrical grid and are
usually installed in remote areas where grid
supply is not available.
An off-grid solar system includes solar panels, battery backup, and an inverter. One of the most significant
advantages of an off-grid solar system is that it provides complete energy independence. Excess energy
generated during the day is stored in the batteries that power the house during the night.
Hybrid solar system
Hybrid solar systems combine the best
of both off-grid and on-grid solar systems.
These systems are connected to the grid
and also include battery storage for backup power.
During a grid outage, the system automatically switches to battery power.
While hybrid solar systems are more expensive than on-grid systems, they
offer complete energy independence during power outages.

Typical Saving After Adopting Solar
The amount of money you save depends on your electricity usage and the capacity of your solar
energy system.
Considering the average electricity tariff in India is Rs 6.75 per unit, depending on state and region.
For eg. a 100 kW solar system costing Rs 35,00,000 can generate roughly 400 units per day.
You can save up to Rs 8,64,000 in a year by going solar. In 25 years, you'll be saving Rs 2,16,00,000
Also, the payback period typically for a 100 kW solar system would be ~4-5 years
(35,00,000/8,64,000).

What are the steps for getting
solar for your factory?
#1 Evaluate your needs
Check your average electricity bill for the past few months and determine your monthly unit consumption.
#3 Schedule a site visit / remote site visit
Schedule a site visit with a solar expert who will visit your site and analyze your energy needs. We
provide remote site visit service as well.
#4 Get a quote and a design
Based on your monthly electricity bill, monthly unit consumption, shadow-free area, etc., the solar expert
will provide you with a quotation and a design of the solar installation.
#5 Install solar panels
Once you approve the quotation and design and sign up with the service provider, they will supply
you with the material and set up a time for installation. Industrial installation typically takes 15-30
days depending on the size of your plant. After installation, the service provider can help you get the
necessary approvals from your distribution company in order to commission the plant.
FAQs regarding solar rooftop
working
Q. What capacity of solar plant should I install?
A. Typically, approx 50 kW system produces ~6000 units electricity / month, typically, 50 kW
system requires 5000 sq ft of shadow free space.
B. Capacity greater than sanctioned load typically not permitted
Q. How do Solar Modules work?
A. Solar modules are made of Silicon wafers, a semiconducting material. Photons (particles of
light) from the sun's radiation knock out electrons when they fall on the wafers and a Direct
Current electricity flow is established using the semiconductor properties.
Q. Does solar system produce electricity from solar during grid outage
A. The grid connected solar rooftop system does not produce electricity from solar during grid
outage. Solar systems that are equipped with batteries not only provide backup but also
generate electricity using solar during grid outage.
Q. If no body is at home during day time, is solar generation wasted?
C. No, solar electricity is not wasted if it's not being consumed by the premises. During
daytime, solar system exports any excess solar electricity not used by the premises to the
national electricity grid. Similarly, at night, excess electricity required by the premises is
imported from the grid as solar generation is absent at night.
How can you clean your solar panels?
Dirt, dust, and debris can cause a reduction of up to 12% in generation loss and
would affect your overall savings. Hence, it is very crucial to clean and maintain
the health of your solar system.
01 Safety first! Always disconnect solar panels from
the power supply before cleaning. Use
sturdy equipment like a ladder or scaffolding for
reaching the panels safely.
02 Avoid harsh chemicals and detergents. Use a soft-bristled brush or
sponge with mild soap and water. Rinse thoroughly to remove any
residue.
03 Always clean solar panels in the early morning or late evening to avoid
the glass breakage.
04 Create a regular cleaning schedule for solar panels based on location and
climate. Clean at least twice a month, or more if in a dusty or polluted
area.
