• Strictly speaking, the term "contemporary art" refers
to art made and produced by artist living today.
Today's artist work in and respond to a global
environment that is culturally diverse, technologically
advancing, and multifaceted. Working in a wide range
of mediums, contemporary artist often reflect and
comment on modern day society.
Contemporary Art
• is the art of today, produced by artist who are living
in the 21st century. Contemporary art provides an
opportunity to reflect on contemporary society and
the issues relevant to ourselves, and the world
around us. Contemporary arts work in a globally
influenced, culturally diverse, and technologically
advancing world. Their art is a dynamic combination
of materials, methods, concepts, and subjects that
challenge traditional boundaries and defy easy
definition.
What is an
art ?
• Contemporary Art is defined as the art of the now.
These are the artworks that are produced in the
present. It is difficult to define the actual starting
point of contemporary art since the present is in
constant motion.

• Art is a tool for communication. Whether it is a
painting or a performance as long as it is a venue for
one to convey or express a thought, emotions, or
aspirations; it is considered art.

• Art is the tangible output of creative expression. It is
a product of human creativity and skill to express
oneself. It is represented through its different forms
and disciplines such as fine arts, decorative arts, and
contemporary arts.

artistic disciplines that are appreciated primarily
through sight.

1. Fine Arts
• was used to describe the art forms created primarily
for its appearance rather than its practical use.

• The term used to include artworks that came about


from emerging technology and artistic innovations
2. Decorative Arts
• Also known as decorative crafts, are artworks that are
both aesthetically pleasing and functional. While the
fine arts are primarily concerned with beauty and
aesthetics, the decorative arts were not only beautiful
but are useful as well.

• Makers of these artworks were not considered artist


but rather as craftsmen.
3. Contemporary
Art Forms
• The recently conceived art styles and techniques that
are not easily categorized with the decorative arts
and fine arts.

• It is produced in our present lifetime. The list is


continually expanding with new art forms being
invented due to the development of technology.
Performing Arts
• When artist using their voices and/or body
movements to communicate artistic expression, this
is an example of performing arts.

• Performing arts are often categorized into three


types; music, dance, and theater.
1. Music
• Music is a universal form of art. It is defined as the
manipulation of sound and silence. It blends the
different elements such as pitch, rhythm, dynamics,
timbre, and texture to create sound.

• It is performed by utilizing different instruments,


vocal techniques, and styles. It can be performed live
or recorded and can be prepared in advanced or
improvised.
2. Dance
• Is defined as regulated and deliberated order of body
movements.

• These movements have aesthetic value and are often


performed accompanied with music.
3. Theatre
• A play or a branch of performing arts that often
involves the integration and combination of the visual
performing arts. It is defined as the fine art where
actors or actresses perform experiences, whether real
or imagined, in front of a live audience.

• The performers use gestures, music, song, dance,


and visual arts to help communicate the story in front
of an audience.
a.Dance – to move your body in a way that goes with the rhythm and
style of music that is being played.
b.Ensemble – a group of people or things that make up a complete unit
(such as a musical group, a group of actors or dancers, or a set of
clothes).
c.Festival - a special time or event when people gather to celebrate
something.
d.Musical Play – Also called musical comedy, musical theatre, or
musical.) A play in which *music, usually in the form of songs, is
essential to the narrative.
e.Puppetry – the skill or activity of using puppets in performances.
