What does Energy Consumption mean?

Energy consumption refers to ALL the energy

used to perform an action, manufacture
something or simply inhabit a building. Here
are a few examples: In a factory, total energy
consumption can be measured by looking at
how much energy a production process
consumes, for example, by making car parts.
This will include water, electricity, gas… any
energy source needed to transform the raw
material into the final production a household,
energy consumption includes electricity, gas,
water, and any other energy used to live
comfortably. The energy consumption of
transportation includes how much diesel or
gasoline vehicles consume to run.
Why do we study energy consumption?

Energy management is a growing field of

study and an exciting career path. A
proactive assessment and management of
energy systems allows for successful
economic and environmental results. An
energy manager strategically evaluates
energy use, with a view to making changes
which create a more efficient system. Max

and efficiency
What is the purpose of the energy
sector?

The energy sector includes

corporations that primarily are in
the business of producing or
supplying energy such as fossil
fuels or renewables. The energy
sector has been an important
driver of industrial growth over
the past century, providing fuel to
power the rest of the economy.
What is the importance of learning about electricity and energy?

An understanding of electricity is important for general technological literacy. In

addition, many engineering careers require a fundamental knowledge of electricity in
order to invent and design technologies and products that we depend upon every
day.
What are the major sources of
energy ?

Natural gas: 31.8%

Petroleum (crude oil and natural
gas plant liquids): 28%
Coal: 17.8%
Renewable energy: 12.7%
Nuclear electric power: 9.6%”
What is sectorial energy
consumption?

It investigates the causal

relationships between income and
energy consumption in two ways:
first, the relationship is studied at
the aggregate level; then, we focus
on the industrial sector.
What are the 5 main sectors of
energy consumption?

It is calculated as the sum of the final

energy consumption of all sectors.
These sectors are disaggregated to
cover industry, transport,
households(residential, commercial)
services and agriculture.

Which sector consumes most energy?

the industrial sector Within the industrial sector,

manufacturing accounts for the largest share of
annual industrial energy consumption, generally
followed by mining, construction, and agriculture.
Mining includes extraction of minerals, no mineral
products such as stone and gravel, coal, oil, and
natural gas.
Share of electricity consumption in India
The industry sector accounted for the highest share of energy consumption
across India in fiscal year 2021,at 41 percent. The domestic sector followed,
ranking second at 26 percent. By comparison, traction and railways
accounted for one percent of the total electricity consumption in India.
Electricity penetration in India Despite the domestic sector representing
roughly one-quarter of India's electricity consumption, around 2.4 percent of
Indian households have no access to electricity, according to a survey
conducted in 2020.
Many people use traditional fuels such as wood or agricultural residues for
cooking and heating purposes.
Nevertheless, burning these fuels releases several air pollutants such as
nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, and particulate matter, which are
detrimental to the environment and public health. The power sector in India
India's rapidly growing economy is one of the nation's leading drivers of
electricity demand. Accordingly, India ranks amongst the leading electricity-
producing countries worldwide, just below China and the United States.

In 2021, India generated over 1.7 peta watt-hours of electricity, about 20

percent of electricity generation from renewable sources. By 2030, the
country is set to achieve a renewable capacity of 500 gigawatts – the most
extensive expansion plan in renewable energy globally
How energy sector consumption effect
environment

The energy sector accounts for about two-

thirds of global greenhouse gas emissions
attributed to human activity. More than a
billion people still lack access to electricity,
while 3 billion rely on dirty fuels like charcoal
and animal waste for cooking and heating.-
Using energy more efficiently is one of the
fastest, most cost-effective ways to save
money, reduce greenhouse gas emissions,
create jobs, and meet growing energy
demand.

Developing countries tend to use more
energy than developed countries.
Countries without stable electricity or a
modern road system tend to use less
energy
How energy sector affects the economy?

Energy transition's impact on global GDP This investment leads to additional

demand and output across economic sectors, such as construction and
manufacturing, thereby having a positive effect on global Gross Domestic Product
(GDP). Energy consumption lead to economy The development of the national
economy depends on many different factors and one of the most significant is the
volume of consumption of energy resources.
* Conclusion*
It is essential to understand that
energy consumption does not
necessarily come from a single
energy source. Indeed, it is a
common misconception to think
that to save energy you have to
save electricity whereas it could
be a totally different energy
source that has the greatest
impact on a certain process.
