SURVEY OF BREAST CANCER,

&
REVIEW OF MACHINE LEARNING TCHNIQUE
AND THEIR ANALYSIS..
INTRODUCTION
Breast cancer is a pressing global health issue, demanding diverse
machine learning and data mining algorithms for precise prediction.
Various types present distinct diagnostic challenges. Machine
learning extracts patterns from extensive datasets, improving
diagnosis and prognosis over traditional methods. The process
involves preprocessing, feature selection, and classification. The
article delves into integrating machine learning in breast cancer
prediction, discussing algorithms, ensemble techniques, and deep
learning approaches, concluding with a thorough examination of the
topic.
BREAST CANCER: AN OVERVIEW
• Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in
women.
• The leading risk factor for breast cancer is simply being a
women. Though breast cancer does occur in men, the disease
is 100 times more common in women.
• According to the National Cancer Institute, a women has
about a one in eight chance of being diagnosed with breast
cancer in her lifetime.
• Most women (about eight out of10) who get breast cancer do
not have a family history of the disease.
• The factors like unhealthy diet, smoking, alcohol
consumption and physical inactivity are linked to breast
cancer risk.
MACHINE LEARNING IN BREAST CANCER
ANALYSIS..
Machine learning plays a crucial role in breast cancer analysis by
leveraging algorithms to analyse vast amounts of data and extract
patterns that aid in diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment decisions.
These algorithms can process diverse data types such as medical
imaging, genomic data, and patient records to identify patterns
indicative of different breast cancer types, stages, and responses
to treatments. Machine learning techniques enhance the accuracy
and efficiency of breast cancer detection, classification, risk
assessment, and personalized treatment planning, ultimately
improving patient outcomes and healthcare decision-making.
MACHINE LEARNING ALGORITHMS FOR BREAST
CANCER PREDICTION

Machine learning employs algorithms to learn from past data, enabling predictions for future outcomes. In
breast cancer prediction, several key machine learning algorithms are utilized:
A. Artificial Neural Network (ANN): Utilizes layers (input, hidden, output) to extract complex patterns
through parallel processing and network architecture.
B. Logistics Regression (LR): Supervised learning for binary responses, offering continuous outcomes via
statistical models with binary variables.
C. Support Vector Machine (SVM): A versatile supervised algorithm for classification and regression,
providing high accuracy for large datasets through 3D and 2D modelling.
D. Gaussian Mixture Algorithm: A popular unsupervised technique employing soft clustering to compute
probabilities of various clustered data types, based on expectation maximization.

SURVEY ON BREAST CANCER
1. Breast cancer accounts for 12.5% of all new
annual cancer cases worldwide, making it the
most common cancer in the world.
2. Breast cancer was the most common cancer in
women in 157 countries out of 185 in 2023.
3. In 2023, there were more than 2.3 million
women diagnosed with breast cancer and
more than 670000 deaths globally.
CONCLUSION
This article extensively examines machine learning, deep
learning, and data mining algorithms for breast cancer
prediction, aiming to pinpoint the most effective method.
It serves as a beginner-friendly guide to understanding
these techniques in breast cancer analysis. Starting with a
review of breast cancer types, symptoms, and causes from
fourteen research papers, it then delves into various
machine learning, ensemble, and deep learning
approaches. Future directions include addressing limited
dataset availability through data augmentation, combating
imbalanced data for unbiased results, and balancing breast
cancer images with affected patches for accurate diagnosis
and prediction.
