Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru-
Early Life
1. Jawaharlal Nehru was born on 14 November 1889 in
Allahabad, British India (now Prayagraj, India).
2. He studied at Harrow School and Trinity College,
Cambridge, where he graduated in Natural
Sciences.
3. He later studied law at the Inns of Court, London,
and became a barrister.
4. After India’s independence, he became the first
Prime Minister of India on 15 August 1947.
5. He remained India’s Prime Minister until his death
on 27 May 1964.
His struggle for Indian independence
(1912-47)
• Early Influence: Nehru was inspired by
Mahatma Gandhi’s call for nonviolent
resistance and joined the freedom struggle in
1919.
• Imprisonments: Nehru was arrested multiple
times for his involvement in civil disobedience
movements against British rule.
• Salt March and Civil Disobedience: He
played a key role in Gandhi’s 1930 Salt March,
mobilizing Indians to defy British salt laws.
• First Prime Minister: After independence,
Nehru became India’s first Prime Minister,
shaping the nation’s democratic and secular
foundation.
