Operation Notes

 Do not use antistatic or conductive masks or breathing hoses. They can

cause burns if working with high frequency electrosurgical equipment.

 Re-do system check each time when accessories or components like

hose, humidifier, and filter are replaced.

 Adding accessories or other components to the ventilator can increase

system inspiratory and expiratory resistance

 Humidifier connector must be lower than the ventilator’s breathing

connectors and the patient.

 To reduce the risk of fire, do not use a low-pressure O2 supply that

delivers a flow greater than 15L/min.

V-A/C
- Volume Assisted / Controlled ventilation
 In V-A/C, a preset amount of tidal volume is delivered to the patient within
preset delivery time (Tinsp). The airway pressure varies according to the
compliance and resistance of the patient’s lungs and thorax.
 When the airway pressure reaches Pmax-5cmH2O during inspiratory
phase, it is maintained at Plimit level (called PLV).
 If the airway pressure exceeds upper limit of pressure alarm (Pmax),
system will switch to expiratory phase and airway pressure is fully
released.
 V-A/C supports synchronous trigger in expiratory phase. Namely, when the
ventilator detect patient inspiratory effort, it delivers next mechanical
ventilation in advance.

V-A/C

Pressure trigger Alarm Setup

50 © 2011 Mindray Confidential

P-A/C

- Pressure Assisted / Controlled ventilation

 In P-A/C, the airway pressure rises to the set Pinsp (△Pinsp+PEEP)

within Tslope and is maintained at that level until Tinsp is expired. Then
expiration is switched to. When the airway pressure is maintained at
Pinsp level, delivered gas flow will vary with resistance and compliance
of the patient’s lungs.

 During the inspiration phase, when the delivered volume exceeds the
upper alarm limit of tidal volume, the system switches to expiratory
phase immediately and airway pressure is fully released.

 P-A/C supports synchronous trigger in expiratory phase.

Modes
End users are most familiar with, and used most often. All of them support
synchronous trigger or spontaneous breath.
• In this mode, mechanical ventilation is

relaxants consumption, expedite weaning

PSV or excise patient spontaneous breath to help
weaning. It can also provide sufficient
inspiration based on patient lung time
constant, and enable sigh respiration.

Special Functions
 Inspiration Hold
--- Go to -> [Function], press and hold the [Insp. Hold] soft key during inspiration
phase ( Max. 30s )

---Inspiratory valve is closed, and flow turns to zero. Then there is no airway resistance. At
this moment, Pplat is generated by lung capacity and compliance

---Calculate Cstat and Pplat.

Function
1. Optimize parameters with the
measurement of Cstat;
2. Improve ventilation efficiency;
3. Ensure patient safety.

55 © 2011 Mindray Confidential

Special Functions
 Expiration hold
--- Go to -> [Function], press and hold the [Exp. Hold] soft key during
expiration phase ( Max. 30s )

--- Expiratory valve closed. Flow is zero and pressure in the lung and ventilator
circuit equilibrate. The static airway pressure represents total PEEP.

--- Calculate PEEPi.

56 © 2011 Mindray Confidential

Special Functions

 Expiration hold

---PEEPi reflects obstructive pulmonary diseases (asthma, COPD) condition

and treatment effect. And it’s very meaningful for the clinical diagnosis and
treatment

---PEEPi is not easy to detect. But

PEEPi could reduce trigger
sensitivity of ventilator as its
increasing, which could cause
invalid trigger. With expiration
hold, increased PEEPi can be
detected in time, which can
guide users adjust the trigger
sensitivity to improve ventilation

Special Functions

 Suction

- Press soft key to start the function.

- 3 phases:
 O2↑ before suction. (Max. 120s)
 Suction (Max. 120s), close inspiratory valve, disable alarm
 O2↑after suction (Max. 120s), resume ventilation, enable alarm

58 © 2011 Mindray Confidential

Special Functions

 Suction

---Deliver higher O2 concentration before and after suction can avoid

hypoxia and ensure patients’ safety

---Inspiratory valve is closed during suction, which could prevent secretion,

bacteria and virus in the hose escape to the room. Make sure medical
staffs safety. At the same time, it can also eliminate valve idle running
noise. Keep quiet.

---Alarms will be disabled

automatically during suction to
make patients feel comfortable,
and resumed automatically
after suction.

Special Functions
 Nebulizer
Administer medication in the form of a mist so that patient can inhale into
the lungs.
- Connect the nebulizer kit in the breathing circuit as required.
- Press soft key to start the function.

60 © 2011 Mindray Confidential

Special Functions
 Nebulizer

- CO2 module will be disabled because CO2 cannot be measured in the

aerosolized medicine environment.

- Disabled for pediatric patient ventilated in volume control modes (V-A/C,

V-SIMV and PRVC)

- Aerosolized medication may occlude the expiration valve and flow sensor.
Please have them checked and cleaned after nebulization.

WHEN?
1. The deviation between the expiratory flow sensor and inspiration flow
sensor exceeds 10% of the measured value and 2L/min.

2. After replacing the monitoring module main board, sensor adapter

board, O2 proportional valve or inspiratory valve.

3. After the altitude value is updated in the setup menu.

 Notes

- Before calibration, perform system leak test first and make sure that the test
is passed and there is no tubing leakage.

- Before calibration, make sure that no sensor, valve, or limb related technical
alarms occurred.

- During calibration, make sure that the ventilator is connected to high-pressure

O2 supply with sufficient gas supply. Failure to do so may lead to calibration
failure.

- Do not move or press the tubes during calibration.
