Proportionality

The document explains the concept of proportion, defining it as an equation showing two equal ratios. It covers properties of proportion, including cross-multiplication and alternation properties, and provides practice questions for solving proportions. Additionally, it encourages students to apply these concepts in real-life scenarios and introduces three other properties of proportion: Inverse, Addition, and Subtraction.

PROPORTIONALITY
MATHEMATICS 9
PROPORTION

• A proportion is an equation that shows

two ratio are equal.
• It can be written as a:b = c:d or a/b =
c/d, where b ≠ 0 and d ≠0.
Tell whether if the statement is TRUE or

FALSE
1.) 3:6 = 2:5
2.) 4:5 = 8:10 are
equal ratios.
3.) If x:7 = 4:7, then x
= 3.
4.) If 2:3 = x:9, then x
= 6.
In today's
lesson,
we will ...
a. Identify which property can be used in
solving a proportion;
b. Solve problems involving proportion by
applying the fundamental theorem of
proportionality; and,
c. Demonstrate companionship in doing the
activities.

Cross-multiplication Property
(MeansExtremes Property)
- in a proportion, the cross products
are equal.

Q&A

As a student, what have

you learned that you
can apply in your daily
living?
Recall:

• When do we say that the two

ratios are proportional?
• How do you solve problems
involving proportion using the
cross-multiplication property?
• How about alternation property?
Find the value of x in each proportion using cross-multiplication property and

alternation property in each proportion. Answer the following in your big notebook.
TO DO:
Site the three other properties of
proportion.
a) Inverse Property
b) Addition Property
c) Subtraction Property
