THE IMPACT OF EDUCATIONAL APPS ON THE ACADEMIC
PERFORMANCE
OF THE JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS IN
MABUNAO NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL
Educational apps have change the way students learn this application
provide interactive, engaging, and accessible tools for students. These
apps offer different resources like, quizzes, virtual classrooms that
enhance learning. Students use them for reviewing lessons, solving
problems, and engaging in interactive learning experiences. The
accessibility and game-like features of apps, such as (e.g., Duolingo
and Google Classroom), motivate students to take charge of their
learning, improving academic performance. This study examines the
use of educational apps by students, focusing on how they affect
learning, engagement, and academic performance. By understanding
how students interact with these apps, the study seeks to identify
effective practices and ways to improve learning outcomes.
Significance of the Study
Students:
This study will be helpful for students to learn to use educational
apps for self-directed learning, academic improvement, and
motivation. Learning how to effectively utilize digital tools
alongside traditional study methods will encourage students to create
personalized learning plans that will lead to the best results on
learning.
Educators:
This study could provide insights and ideas about the usage of
educational apps in the classroom and how these apps can help
learners engage and accommodate different learning preferences.

RESEARCH QUESTIONS
By the end of this study the following questions should be answered;
1. Do educational apps significantly affect the Junior High School students’
academic performance?
2. Do students find educational apps helpful on improving their academic
performance?
3. Are educational apps an effective method or material for learning?
• This study is matched with the Constructivism theory that is developed
by Jean Piaget and Lev Vygotsky. It focuses on active learning through
hands-on experiences and social interaction. Educational apps support
this study because it allows students to explore concepts at their own
pace and engage in problem-solving and critical thinking.
• Another relevant theory is Behaviorism, proposed by B.F. Skinner. This
theory focuses on how reinforcement and feedback influence learning.
Educational apps often incorporate features such as instant feedback,
progress tracking, and rewards for correct answers.
Based on the International Journal of Academic Multidisciplinary Research (IJAMR), (2021) Educational apps is now a big
part of our lives especially in education many students agree that educational apps help them improve their academic performance.
Popular apps such as Google Classroom, Google, Youtube, and Duolingo helps students to learn better filling the gaps left by the
traditional study method. These apps really help students get a higher grade on their exams and assignments because these apps
offer different interactive features like quizzes, and flashcards. Educational apps play a crucial role in improving students' academic
performance by providing personalized learning experiences. These apps adapt to each student’s pace and learning style, allowing
them to progress at their own rate.
Moreover, according to Nones et al., (2025), discussed that educational apps has contributed positive impact in many students
and teachers. In addition, educational apps assist students enhance their critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Base on their
study students frequently use educational apps to supplement their classroom learning. From the result of their study, students
should use educational apps with collaborative features, such as group projects, peer feedback, and discussion forums, to stay
engaged and improve teamwork skills. Furthermore, students should choose educational apps that include open-ended questions,
simulations, and real-world scenarios, as these features effectively enhance critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
British journal of Education Technology (2023) suggest that educational apps are
interactive software designed that support learning and primarily used on a hand-held
touchscreen such as tablet or smartphone devices that allow students engaged learning
experiences that can be accessed anytime and wherever they want to study. With apps
like Google Classroom or Youtube it allows students to stay connected to their classes
and communicate with teachers and classmates in real-time watch tutorials about tough
topics, regardless of location.
There is a huge effect of using educational apps on learning performance for
students. Educational apps help students by providing different and effective education
tools which can increase student success in their subjects. On the other hand,
technology assists students in managing their time through apps, which can refine the
quality of the student's life.(Almowallad,et al.,2023).
Educational apps, such as (e.g., YouTube, Brainly, and Google Classroom),
are designed to enhance learning through engaging features like games,
videos, and quizzes, improving students' understanding and retention of
knowledge. This study measures academic performance through GPA,
reflecting how well students absorb and apply knowledge. Engagement refers
to the level of interaction students have with these apps, with higher
engagement leading to a better concentration, motivation, and learning
outcomes. Additionally, personalized learning, found in many educational
apps, adjusts lessons and activities to meet students' needs, creating a more
effective learning environment.
The study was conducted in Mabunao National High School through simple
random sampling design, distribution of survey questionnaires, and follow-up
interview used to collect information that is needed in gathering the
respondent’s information. These methods are important to ensure an unbiased,
reliable, and proper answers. This research study could be important in
determining the impact of educational apps in Junior High School Students
academic performance in Mabunao National High School.
The Mabunao National High School consist of 198 Junior
High School students. The researchers’ choose Mabunao
National High School as the location of the study. A simple
random sampling method was used to select 30 respondents.
These 30 participants were surveyed to assess the impact of
educational apps on their academic performance. The results
gathered from this sample will provide valuable insights into
how educational apps influence student academic performance.
The researchers used a survey questionnaire to gather information from
the selected respondents, ensuring secure and accurate responses by
directly distributing the questionnaires. After the surveys were
completed, follow-up interviews were conducted to clarify any answers
and eliminate potential biases. To analyze the data, the Pearson
correlation was applied to determine the impact of educational apps on
the academic performance of Junior High School students at Mabunao
National High School.
