purposes.

FORT KOCHI:
• A charming seaside area, Fort Kochi is known for its Dutch, Portuguese, and British
colonial architecture, and elaborate bamboo fishing nets at Fort Kochi Beach.
• St. Francis Church was the original burial site of explorer Vasco da Gama.
• Upscale eateries and chic cafes serve Keralan specialties, and quaint shops sell
cotton clothing and handmade souvenirs.
• Heritage buildings house contemporary art galleries.

BACKWATER
The backwaters have a unique
ecosystem:-
• Freshwater from the rivers
meets the seawater from the
Arabian Sea.
• A barrage has been built near
Thannermukkom, so salt water
from the sea is prevented from
entering the deep inside,
keeping the fresh water intact.
• Such fresh water is extensively
DUTCH CEMETRY
• The Dutch Cemetery is among the most
visited sites in Fort Kochi.
• The Dutch Cemetery is famous for its
imperial inhabitants, voyagers who left their
homelands centuries ago to propagate and
expand their own empire.
• Consecrated in 1724, the Cemetery is today
managed by the Church of South India.
• From here emanate stories that shaped the
cultural mix of an entire coast.
FORT EMMANUEL
• Fort Emmanuel is also known
as Fort Emmanuel.
• It is a ruined fort located at
Fort Kochi Beach in Kochi,
Kerala, India.
• It was a bastion of the
Portuguese and a symbol of
the strategic alliance
between the Maharaja of
Kochi and the Kingdom of
Portugal.
PARADESI SYNANOGUE

• The Paradesi Synagogue or the Mattancherry Synagogue is a


synagogue located in Mattancherry Jew Town, a suburb of the
city of Kochi, Kerala, in India.
• It was built in 1568 A.D. by Samuel Castle, David Belila, and
Joseph Levi for the flourishing Paradesi Jewish community in
Kochi.
PALESTINE STREET

• The Palestine Street area has witnessed many


recent reconstruction efforts,
• The Palestine Street area has with many trees were
planted by Baghdad municipality, fountains and
playgrounds were constructed.
• Palestinian Street is the leading commercial and
shopping centre in eastern Baghdad.
FORT KOCHI MUSEUM
• The museum, preserves the rich heritage of
Indo-Portuguese culture, art and
architecture in Kerala, owes its origin to Dr
Joseph Kureethra, the erstwhile Bishop of
Kochi.
• The museum houses an invaluable
collection of artefacts that reveal the
Portuguese legacy in Fort Kochi and the
surrounding areas.
MATTANCHERRY PALACE
• The Mattancherry Palace is a palace popularly known as the Dutch
Palace, in Mattancherry, Kochi, in the Indian state of Kerala which
features Kerala murals depicting portraits and exhibits of the Rajas of
Kochi.
JEWS TOWN
• Historic Jew Town, the heart of the
once-thriving Cochin Jewish community,
is known for its old-world charm and
16th-century Paradesi Synagogue.
• Quaint shops around Synagogue Lane
and Jew Town Road sell antiques,
carvings, and vintage collectibles, along
with Keralan crafts and aromatic spices.
• Laid-back outdoor cafes and artsy
eateries, some in heritage buildings,
serve local specialties and Western
fare.
