INTRODUCTION TO STUDENTS
INDUSTRIAL WORK EXPERIENCE
SCHEME (SIWES)
The Students Industrial Work Experience
Scheme (SIWES) is a program designed for
Nigerian students in tertiary institutions to
acquire practical work experience in their
chosen field of study. The scheme aims to:
1. Bridge the gap between theoretical
knowledge and practical skills
2. Enhance students' employability
33
3. Expose students to real-world work
environments
4. Develop skills in problem-solving,
communication, and teamwork
SIWES is typically a 3-6 month program, usually
undertaken during the long vacation, and is
mandatory for many undergraduate programs
in Nigeria.
