POINT OF VIEW
POINT OF VIEW
This is the perspective from
which the story is told. A story
can be told from the point of
view of a character or a
narrator.
POINT OF VIEW
It also refers to a person’s
opinion, perspective or
standpoint on something, or
the perspective from which a
story is narrated.
THERE ARE THREE MAIN TYPES OF
POINT OF VIEW IN STORIES WHICH
ARE;
1. First-Person Point of View

2. Second-Person Point of View

3. Third-Person Point of View


First Main Types is First-Person Point of

Example:
I was thirteen years old when the war

Second Main Types is Second-Person Point of

Is used less commonly in literature; it

Third Main Types is the Third-Person Point of
View
Has a narrator describing the actions of
characters within the story. It uses the
pronoun like he, she, it, they, his, her, and
their.
Example:
He was thirteen years old when the war
began.
There are Three Sub-Types of Third-Person
Point of View which are;

1. Third Person Omniscient

2. Third Person Limited

3. Third Person Objective Point of View


First Sub-Types of Third Person Point of View is
Third Person Omniscient

The word omniscient is means “all-


knowing”.
Third person omniscient POV means that
the narrative is told from the perspective
of narrative who knows the thought and
feelings of many characters in the story.
Second Sub-Types of Third Person Point of
View is Third Person Limited

Has access to the thoughts and emotions of just one


character.

Usually describes only events that the point of view


character personally experiences.

Describes the emotions of the protagonist of a story


but let the audience infer how other characters are

feeling from context.


Third Sub-Types of Third Person Point of View
is Third Person Objective Point of View

is a way to tell your story by giving the reader all the


details within the scenes without including what is going

on in the characters’ minds.

The most distant, gives details but no thoughts or


feelings.

• Acting as observers in the story.

• They do not add anything about the character’s feelings
