What is Windows 10
• Windows 10 is one of the series operating systems
that Microsoft has developed for personal
computers.

o Processer: 1GHz or faster processor.
o Ram: 1GB for 32 bit or 2 GB for 64

with WDDM driver.
o Display: 800x600

o To use the menu click the windows
icon at the bottom left of the screen.
o You can also use another lesser
menu by clicking windows button
plus X to access features like
command prompt, control panel and
task manager.

o Cortana acts as a personal assistant
similar to Apple's Siri and operates
via voice command to help with
tasks like scheduling and reading or
summarizing your email.

o Microsoft introduced the Edge
browser to replace the old browser.

o Some of the best security features
include:
o Windows Hello: Software that uses
facial recognition to unlock your
machine using its webcam, as well as
to unlock more than a dozen apps.

o Automatic updates: Unlike
previous versions of the OS,
Windows 10 offers automatic
updates by default, to keep systems
more secure.

o To start windows 10 click the power
button of the computer.
o The windows then starts booting and
brings you the log in screen if one is
set.
o Type your password and click enter.
o The desktop screen will appear.

o The Desktop is the main screen
o It is the work area where dialog
boxes, windows, icons, and menus
appear.
o The desktop consists of two main
components:
1. Desktop that contains many
components like icons "file, folder,
shortcut. Etc.
2. Task bar.
Icons
o An icon is a graphic image, a small
picture or object that represents a file,
program, web page, or command.
o We can classify icons as the following:
o Folder icons, File icons and Shortcut icons.
Files store data.
While folders store files and other
folders.
And a shortcut is a link that points to a
program on the computer.

o Whenever you open a program, file,
or folder, it appears on your screen
in a box or frame called a window.
o That's where the Windows operating
system gets its name.

o Although the contents of every
window are different, all windows
share some things in common:

Title Bar
o Displays the name of the document and
program (or the folder name if you're
working in a folder).
Minimize, Maximize, and Close
buttons
o These buttons hide the window, enlarge it
to fill the whole screen, and close it,
respectively.
Menu bar.
o Contains items that you can click to make
choices in a program.

Scroll bar
o Let’s you scroll the contents of the
window to see information that is
currently out of view.
Borders and corners
o You can drag these with your
mouse pointer to change the size
of the window.

Moving a window
o To move a window, point to its title
bar with the mouse pointer .
o Then drag the window to the
location that you want.

Dialog Box
o A dialog box is a special type of
window that asks you a question,
o Allows you to select options to
perform a task, or provides you
with information.
o Unlike regular windows, most
dialog boxes can't be maximized,
minimized, or resized. They can,
however, be moved.

a window.
o The various parts of this window are
designed to help you navigate

o Is used to access download,
documents folders, and even entire
hard disks.

o To navigate to other folders you've
already opened without closing the
current window.

o Is used to perform common tasks,
such as changing the appearance
of your files and folders.

Address Bar
o Use the address bar to navigate to
a different folder or to go back to a
previous one.

Column Headings
o Use the column headings to change
how the files in the file list are
organized.
File list
o This is where the contents of the
current folder is displayed.
Search box
o Type a word or phrase in the search
box to look for an item in the current
folder.

Selecting Single Object
o To select a single object, click on it
once.
Selecting Multiple Objects
o There are several ways to select
Multiple files or folders:
o To select a consecutive group of files
or folders, click the first item, press
and hold down the Shift key, and
then click the last item.

o To select Multiple files or folders that
are near each other, drag the mouse
pointer to create a selection around
the outside of all the items that you
want to include.
o To select non-consecutive files or
folders, press and hold down the Ctrl
key, and then click each item that you
want to select.
o To select all of the files or folders in a
window, click Ctrl+A

Rename
o Click the file or folder to select it
o Right-click the folder
o Select rename and type the new name
o Click enter
Copying
o Open the location that contains the file
you want to copy.
o Right-click the file, and then click
Copy.

o Open the location where you want to
store the copy.
o Right-click an empty space within the
location, and then click Paste.
Moving (cut)
o Moving cuts the item from its previous
location and places it in a new
location.
o Copying leaves the original item where
it was and creates a copy of the item
elsewhere.

Create a Folder
o Open the drive or folder where you
want to create a folder.
o Click the New folder button on the
toolbar.
o With the New Folder name selected,
type a new name.
o Press Enter.

Deleting
o Select the file or folder.
o Click the Organize button and select
Delete from the pull-down menu.
o After you select delete a
confirmation message appears.
Opening an existing file or folder
o To open a file, double-click it. The file
will usually open in the program that
you used to create or change it

Search for a file and folder
o Windows provides several ways to find
files and folders.
o There isn't one best way to search—you
can use different methods for different
situations.
Use the search box on the Start
menu
o Click the Start button and then type a
word or part of a word in the search box.
o Search result appear as soon as you start
typing in the search box.

Use the search box in a folder
o Type a word or part of a word in the
search box.
o As you type, the contents of the
folder are filtered to reflect each
successive character you type.
o When you see the file that you want,
stop typing.

o You can use Control Panel to change
settings for Windows.
o There are two ways to find Control
Panel items
o Use search: To find a setting you're
interested in or a task you want to
perform, type a word or phrase in
the search box.
o Browse: you can explore Control
Panel by clicking different categories.
